First, you will get to meet and pet a fiber animal. We have a cute Nigori goat kid. Then you will immerse yourself in fluff. You will feel the fibers and discover the difference between sheep, alpaca, and angora fibers. You will also learn the background and history felting and sheering. Next, you will select your favorite color of sheep fiber and use hand carders to brush out the fiber until it is silky smooth. Once you are satisfied with your fiber, we will give you a bar of sweet smelling hand soap. You will attach clumps of your fluff to the soap using a felt needle. Eventually you will wrap the entire bar of soap with fiber. We will then get our soap wet with hot water to create the felt. Felting soap was the traditional way to make soap last longer! While our soap is drying we will create a doll! We will use pipe cleaners to make the shape and then cover the shape with more of our brushed out fibers, to create the doll's body. The doll will be poked with needles to sculpt features and clothing designs. This experience will last about two hours. One hour will be learning about felting and soap making, one hour will be making a doll.
