We start off by explaining many interesting facts about these fascinating little creatures called honey bees. In the beginning we will walk around the gardens to view some of the tropical plants and observe the zillions of bees as they visit their favorite flowers in search of nectar and pollen. You will learn about the different parts of a Langstroth bee hive and how we eventually get our honey from the hive. After talking about bees for a bit we will light a smoker which is used to mask bee alarm pheromone and helps to keep bees calm. Then we will walk over to the apiary and open a hive to observe the busy bees at work. Everyone will wear a protective beekeeper jacket and gloves and learn about appropriate apiary etiquette. You will have the opportunity to hold a frame and observe the honey bees up close. This is where we will see the different types of honey bees in the hive and possibly witness baby bees emerging from a cell in the comb. And if we're lucky, we might even see the queen !
