Mitä teet

We will go to three exciting places in Manila and explore each spot. First, we would meet in Escolta where we would explore this historic and majestic neighborhood. As we walk around and look at historic beautiful buildings, I would explain to you the architecture and history of the buildings. We would also explore hidden spots in the area. From there, we would walk to Binondo "Chinatown" and have a food trip. We would go to two hidden spots where we would have good Filipino-Chinese food. Then, I would bring you to a local store where we can see/buy Chinese delicacies. From there, we would take a tricycle(local style) going to Intramuros. This walled city is the most historic area in the metro! It was the center of Spanish political, religious, and military power in the region. As we walk around Intramuros, we would talk about the history, facts and effects of the Spanish colonization. In here, we would see and visit sights such as Manila cathedral, Casa Manila and San Agustin church and many more. As an architect, I look at buildings differently and I would love share everything I know in terms of Architecture and history of every sights that we would go to.

Please note that if your desired date isn’t available, feel free to message me and I’ll see what I can do. Thank you!

I am a licensed architect who is deeply in love with Manila. I enjoy walking around, looking at buildings, discovering hidden gems, trying to find design inspirations. When I was in university, I had a requirement where I had to make a scaled model(using paper) of the whole Escolta and Intramuros area. I had to walk around there frequently to study and familiarize myself with each building. From there, I got to discover the beauty of Manila. I am passionately familiar with each building since I did build them using paper. Every time I have friends from the provinces and abroad who are visiting, I would tour them around to experience what I have experienced. To see what I have seen, To fall in love with Manila the way I love it. Now I wanna share it with everyone

Missä tulette olemaan

We would be in the heart of Manila. We would explore the beautiful Escolta where we would talk about each building and go to hidden spots. Next, the old and thriving Binondo where we would get Chinese snacks from hidden spots and lastly, we would walk around the walled city of Intramuros and enter majestic structures.

John is an architect and he brings this immense knowledge to the tour - he knows who designed a building - when it was build - why it collapsed - he knows the history of buildings and the different roles they went through over the decades - he tailored the tour to my interests - you will be totally pleased if you take this tour with John. It was outstanding. I have done several Airbnb experiences and this was tops.

John is passionate about the city's architecture and will show you buildings and views that I would have missed if I were doing the walking tour on my own. He is also open to sharing stories and views about Filipino culture that only a local could provide. He modified the tour to accommodate my dietary restrictions and took me to a delicious vegan restaurant. Overall, he was very friendly, caring and knowledgeable.

John’s tour was fantastic. He’s clearly an expert in the architecture of Binondo and Intramuros. He can delve into architectural styles — from beaux to nouveau to romanesque to neoclassical to colonial to baroque to whatever-else-I’ve-forgotten — like nobody’s business. But he explains things in a way that non-architecture-buffs like myself can understand. And I loved that John related not only the historical significance of each place we visited, but also his own personal stories about some of them. And he's a humble guy. If he doesn't know something, he'll freely admit it. Only a true expert would do that. John’s passion is transparent — it’s a passion for telling the stories behind buildings and artworks that locals and tourists can easily take for granted. Amidst the hustle and bustle of a bristling, oft-chaotic city, John reveals the hidden gems that only a local expert can reveal. All you need to do is come with an open mind, an open heart, and a willingness to realize that yes, at this moment, in front of this building, there’s much more to see than meets the eye. That wow, it’s actually much more beautiful than it initially appears to be... And in John, you’ll find a very kind-hearted, caring person. He made sure we were safe, getting in front of traffic to ensure it slowed down so we could cross the street. He made sure we were comfy, being mindful of the shade so we wouldn’t broil under the sun. He made sure we weren’t hungry, offering us delicious grub from small, less-well-known eateries so we could taste the best that Binondo had to offer. And John made sure we were heard, unlike other tour guides who focus on delivering their Google-researched spiels without really caring to get to know their guests. In short, John made sure we enjoyed not just a tour experience, but also a truly human experience. The best kind that you’ll remember as you reminisce about your travels — because you remember not so much all the interesting facts you picked up along the way, but because you remember how, during the tour, you felt like someone really cared about you not just as a tourist, but as a person.
