  • Goat hike along the gold miners' trail
Big “Hello” from the “Girls” and I on Arkansas Mountain. We begin our goat hiking adventure at the ol’ Stage Stop cabin, our home. It’s a passion of mine to unfold the feeling of the 1859 gold rush from the journals and letters kept by these people; men, women and children. First, you’ll meet Polly, Mimi, Polka and Coco, your hiking companions. They are gentle girl goats, intuitively aware of our younger hikers. They trek with us as we retrace the trail of the '59ers. You'll see old mine portals, the Cloud City school house, Cornish stone walls built to shore up hillsides, root cellars, blacksmith shop, and more. I'll point out holes where miners dynamited in their search for gold and multiple pine tree trunks growing over old mining tunnels. The land reveals many secrets of our past when you know its contours. Then the celebrated goat race. Full disclosure upon arrival! Race entrance offering 25cents. There is time for photos and trail stops for breathing and storytelling. Our hike ends at the STAGE STOP, where we began. The STAGE STOP was named for the blacksmith shop located on our property, the Ol' Crane Ranch. A review: "The hike with Valerie and her goats was the highlight of our trip. . . [H]er stories offered everything to experience the real beauty and history of Colorado." If price is prohibitive, suggest another.

  • Healing with Horses and Goats
Upon arrival at the ranch, we'll get grounded and connected to the space and then visit with the goats to learn from their wisdom around curiosity, courage, confidence, and connection. We'll explore ways you can grow these qualities in your life as you meet each of them and give them scratches which is a nice flow of giving/receiving. You'll see which goat you connect with the most and you'll learn a bit about them. We'll do a short meditation to feel the goat quality you most want in your life. Then we'll head to the large horse pasture and you'll get to meet the horses. Again you'll observe the horses and see which one you are most drawn to and why. You'll learn about each of the equines and what they teach which is often about power, leadership, presence, living from our hearts, and staying centered/grounded. We'll end with another short meditation to feel the healing power of the horses and become connected to the horse quality you want more of in your life and work. All work with the animals is on the ground (no riding) and is based on respectful touch and listening to their desires as much as our own.

  • Camp on a cliff in Colorado
Cliff camping is an experience like none you have ever had. We will meet at our headquarters at 11am, run through equipment, and do a final check before we depart. We then drive about 15 minutes to the trailhead. The hike takes most groups about an hour, but it is on well maintained trails and ascends terrain almost anyone can handle. It is about two-thirds of a mile with 800 feet of uphill. At the base of the cliff we will gear up and talk safety. At this point we can choose to climb up to the cliff camp site from below (harder) or hike to the top and rappel down ropes to the site (easier). Once we arrive we will set up our campsite in the sky and learn how to live in vertical space. We have a few hours that you can choose what you want to do: climb, bird watch, learn vertical skills, take pictures, or just chill. In the evening we make a really delicious dinner before settling in for a night of epic star gazing in the sky. Wake up whenever and we will make coffee and breakfast before rappelling back to the ground and returning to KMAC HQ. This usually is around 11am. Other things to note Many guests ask how much experience they need for this. The answer is none. All you need is some stoke and to be in relatively good physical shape (nothing special though).
