We're a four room curated accommodation located in the laid-back Da Kao neighborhood of District 1. Our team is an eclectic collection of migrants and locals—all of us food lovers, coffee enthusiasts, creatives and seekers of culture and good design. Bunker is an amalgamation of our backgrounds: an immersive experience of life in the modern iteration of Saigon. As our guest, even if you're here for only a day—we like to think you’re living, not visiting.

ABOUT BUNKER
/ The love child of Los Angeles and Saigon. /

Bunker is a cultural compound. It’s inspired by the real, irreverent, and sometimes run-down neighborhood haunts of Chinatown, Los Angeles, where some of us grew up.
Designed to reflect not just the look, but the mood of such a space and time: the idea was to capture what an immigrant family would create in Los Angeles in the early 1990s, with no resources, no design sense, no Pinterest, no English skills, but a lot of love for food and the neighborhood where they make a living.

The bedrooms keep their French colonial structure (we are in Ho Chi Minh City after all), but the interior decor is an irreverent mix of neon, aged wood, open bathtubs, books, and kitschy souvenirs collected from around the world — reminiscent of lodgings above Chinatown storefronts.
Our rooms are named The Suite and The Writer's Loft. All of them are listed on AirBnB. You can see them by going to my host profile.

YOUR ROOM - THE WRITER's LOFT:
The Writer's Loft is an attic room designed for any modern Graham Greene. White walls and muted finished wood create a relaxing, distraction-free atmosphere. During the day the wall-to-wall, hand-sanded desk is flooded with natural light from the skylight, giving you plenty of space to spread out and work. At the end of the day you can retreat into the cozy sleeping corner inspired by modern Japanese design.

The spacious shared bathroom with a rain shower is right down the stairs on the second floor, next to the common reading area with a comfy Chester sofa set.

CAFE YEN
This small and charming coffee shop occupies the front yard on the ground floor of the Bunker compound. Originated from Hanoi, they gained popularity by making aromatic and tasty original recipes with selected beans from the highland of Vietnam. Focusing firmly on the quality of the coffee, Cafe Yen provides a quiet and unassuming atmosphere for those who truly come to taste.

THE BARBER SHOP
Behind the breakfast bar downstairs, you will find a little barber shop called Hoai Niem (Old-fashioned). Occupied by four young and enthusiastic man, they are well-known for their takes on adapting old Vietnamese hair style with love and passion. Only available through appointment.

Vieraan pääsy
You're welcome to enjoy all the facilities we provide. Please don't enter the kitchen, let us do the work for you.

District 1 is not famous for being quiet. However, Da Kao, our neighborhood, provides an unique laid-back but up-and-coming vibe. Surrounded by many great places, whether you want traditional Vietnamese street food, hip cafés or bars, you can be there in less than 15 minutes walking.
It's also a nice 20 minute walk to Notre Dame, 10 minute walk to the Saigon Zoo & Museum of Vietnamese History and a 5 minute walk to the famous love temple that Obama visited last May.

Hello, My name is Mike Pham and I'm the co-founder of Bunker, a bed, breakfast and bar; and CAMP, a curated accommodation. Both located in the laid-back Da Kao neighborhood of District 1. We're not just a bed and breakfast. We are food lovers, coffee enthusiasts, seekers and appreciators of good design and culture. As such, we aim to curate an immersive experience of life in the modern iteration of Saigon. As our guest, even if you're here for only a day—you are living, not visiting. BUNKER'S PRESS RELEASE: To live and to dine in LA. Bunker is a bed, breakfast, and bar. It’s inspired by the real, irreverent, and sometimes run-down neighborhood haunts of Chinatown, Los Angeles, where some of us grew up. Designed to reflect not just the look, but the mood of such a space and time. The idea was to capture what an immigrant family would create in Los Angeles in the early 1990s, with no resources, no design sense, no Pinterest, no English skills, but a lot of love for food and the neighborhood where they make a living. (Bunker’s neighbors are invited to grab a free coffee every morning.) While paying homage to that era, Bunker wanted to bring the quality of the food to today’s standards. Hot dogs and burgers are made using freshly baked buns from a local bakery. Hamburger patties and potatoes wedges are homemade and hand cut, respectively. Even the coffee is extracted from single-origin beans from Da Lat, Vietnam. About Camp Dakao: / When Wong Kar Wai meets Susan Sontag / Camp Dakao is living space that's filled with arts, memories and thoughts. Our design progress includes imagining how a place can be poetic, mesmerizing, sensual and most of all, comfortable. Staying here, after a day exploring the hectic city of Saigon, we'd like to invites our guest to rest in a calm and cinematic memories of Saigon in the mid-90s.
