THE LOCATION
Our secluded cabin sits on top of a hill with the most beautiful views looking out over the Aire Valley and forests of the Great Otways National Parks.
3 hours drive from Melbourne, we are located just off of the Great Ocean Road making us conveniently close to the many world class attractions the Otways has to offer. 25 minutes drive from Apollo Bay, we are also not too far from convenience and shops!
Cape Otway National Park borders our property on 2 sides, an undisturbed wilderness of eucalyptus and cool temperate rainforest filled with ferns, moss, creeks, ancient Myrtle and Eucalyptus trees, abundant wildlife including koalas, wallabies, possums, eagles, kookaburras, platypus, Blue wrens and many other species of native birds, animals, unique endemic insects, wildflowers and plants.

It is a magical paradise that you do not want to miss!

THE SPACE
The light filled open-plan dining-lounge area features polished timber floors, and incredible views of the surrounding environment, super comfortable lounge seating and a warm cosy wood-fire heater that heats up the whole house beautifully. The interior décor is interesting and unusual, a mix of contemporary and antique furniture pieces, inspired by industrial relics and natural art forms.

Three decks surround the property for you to relax and enjoy stunning 360 unobstructed views of Aire Valley and the undisturbed wilderness of the Otways National park. A large, enclosed East facing deck area with comfortable outdoor seating, looks out over the trees of the National Park you can sit and relax here, read a book, play cards or simply hang out and observe koalas and birds in their natural habitats.
Our sunny north facing deck, is a great spot to catch some sun, practice some yoga or sit with a glass of wine in the evenings and enjoy the glorious sunsets. The west facing deck off the master bedroom is built from thick solid timbers, upcycled from an old bridge, and has some of the best views on the property of the rolling green hills and surrounding dairy farmland.

Our fully equipped kitchen features gas cook-top, a great fan-forced oven, grill, microwave, refrigerator and freezer, rice cooker, slow cooker, sandwich press, ample cookware, crockery and cutlery.

Master bedroom features a large and gloriously comfortable solid timber frame bed, and unique handmade furniture pieces made entirely from recycled and salvaged timbers. French doors open out onto your own private deck, with North-westerly views over the lush green hills and trees.

The 2nd bedroom features a very comfortable queen size bed, plus singlebed, stylish antique armchairs, built in wardrobe to store your belongings, and cedar French doors that open out onto your private entrance to the deck with views of the forest.

Adjacent to the master bedroom is a cosy little reading nook and luggage storage room, featuring a fold out double sofa bed.

3 additional beds are offered in the loungeroom, the sofas can convert into single beds, and we have a pull out single floor matress that can be placed in front of the fire or anywhere convenient.

Our cabin is ideal for romantic couples getaway, family Hollidays or for groups of friends exploring the great ocean road and tourist destinations. Its a wonderful place to get away from the city, relax and unwind. We can comfortably host 2-8 guests, but by special arrangement (message us) for larger groups we have beds for up to 10 guests max.

All our beds feature quality mattresses, Egyptian cotton or bamboo bed-linens and natural quality bedding such as woolen blankets and goose down doonas to keep you warm and comfortable in the cool southern weather.

The cosy bathroom features antique claw-foot bath to soak away those woes, lovely hot shower, basin and flushing toilet. We provide soft cotton towels and face washers for our guests.

From the comfortable outdoors seating area of the deck you can read, play board games, relax, or observe Koalas and many species of birds, which can be seen daily in the trees right outside the house. Not a day goes by we don’t see Koalas, in the spring and summer you will see mothers and babies, sleeping and eating gum-leaves. Sometimes they will venture down from the trees and walk around on the grass! If you have never seen Koalas in their natural habitat, you will be sure to see many here. There are several families of Koalas living in the trees right outside our back door, just a few meters from our house.

Other native animals regularly visit the property as they emerge from the forest to graze at sunset and sunrise. Animals spotted regularly include Wallabies, Echidnas, Kookaburras, Rosellas, King Parrots, Wedge Tail eagles, Black and yellow Cockatoos, White cockatoos, boo-book and powerful Owls at night, and of course the ever present beautiful Blue Wren (Splendid Fairy Wren).

The Blue Wren Hideaway is a bird-watcher's dream come true. Sitting quietly in the forest for just ten minutes you are likely to spot at least 10 different species of birds. Bring your binoculars and cameras!

For keen astronomy enthusiasts you can enjoy unobstructed views of the night sky. On a moonless night With no light pollution, the Milky Way is dazzling, and its neighbouring galaxies are easily visible to the naked eye. Bring a telescope if you have one.

For families, our place is surrounded by lush green grass, with no prickles/bindies at all! Perfect and safe for kids to run around, playing soccer or frisbee games outside. Or for the adults, the grass outside is a beautiful place to relax, have an afternoon beer, or do some yoga stretches. Bring a picnic blanket to relax outside and enjoy the sunshine outdoors.

Whether you stay a couple of days or a couple of weeks, Blue Wren Hideaway is set up to feel like home. We have given our most careful consideration and attention to ensure our guests have a welcoming, warm and quality experience.
Whatever brings you to explore the majestic natural beauty of the Otways, we are sure you will find that the Blue Wren Hideaway is the perfect place to stay while you are here.

ECO-LIVING
It is important to us that we offer our guests a comfortable and unique accommodation experience that does not harm the natural environment around us. Our eco-cabin has been sustainably built and designed to leave minimal ecological footprint on the earth, without sacrificing creature comforts, style, and practical luxury. The barn style cabin has been built with love, by hand, from mostly recycled timbers and building materials. Our furniture pieces are restored antiques or hand-made from upcycled industrial antiques, timbers and salvaged materials.

All our water is collected from pure rainwater. Our firewood is sustainably sourced from fallen limbs of trees on our property (no tree is ever cut down for firewood). Our electricity comes from solar and wind sources that do not contribute to greenhouse emissions. Our waste water and toilet system goes right back into the ground to nourish the trees and plants. We recycle your vegetable scraps in our composting system, and we encourage all our guest to think about the earth and your impact upon it as you enjoy the beauty of the natural world around you. We have thought about all the little details so that all you need to do is relax and enjoy your Holliday, knowing you are not leaving any environmental impact behind you.
