Villa Sublime is a luxe boutique villa set on 1 acre and located in Unawatuna, on the south-west coast of Sri Lanka. It is a hidden oasis offering a convenient locale, yet complete seclusion amidst swaying coconut palms and lush tropical gardens. It’s the perfect retreat for you to unwind from hectic city life. We promise serenity and rejuvenation of your body, mind and soul.

The villa is ideal for solo travellers, couples or small groups. You may book a stay in any one of the bedrooms or for the entire villa. Whichever option you choose, the sweet serenity of Villa Sublime will undoubtedly ‘seduce your senses’.

Architecturally designed and built to suit the tropical climate, the villa offers 3 spacious bedrooms each in a separate section of the villa allowing complete privacy. Open verandahs, sloped roofs, high ceilings, overhanging eaves, skylights and glassless windows create a sense of openness whilst maximising natural ventilation and airflow. The villa’s interior design and décor is unique yet simple and stylish. A blend of contemporary and exquisite antique furniture pieces creates a rustic ambience.

The Deluxe Queen Suite is the most spacious room at Villa Sublime. It is bright and airy and features a mammoth ensuite bathroom, private internal sitting area and external verandah overlooking the lush tropical gardens and swimming pool. You’ll also have direct access to the library, which has a large desk, comfy chair and several interesting books and games. It is conveniently close to the main verandah, alfresco dining pavilion and swimming pool. All the standard creature comforts are offered whilst finer details have also been carefully considered; a large Queen bed, ensuite bathroom, rain shower with solar hot water, soft cotton bed linen, plush bath towels, ceiling fans, mosquito net, walk in wardrobe, room safe, mini fridge, filtered drinking water and complimentary Wi-Fi. This room is perfect for the discerning solo traveller or couple seeking simplicity yet a little luxury.

The gentle rhythm of the surrounding jungle and our lush tropical gardens will not only enchant you but captivate you. Together they produce a wildlife paradise at Villa Sublime. You will relish the variety of visiting exotic creatures including monkeys, squirrels, peacocks, kingfishers, woodpeckers, flycatchers, oriental magpies, flying fish, water monitors, frogs, fireflies, turtles and the occasional porcupine!

As the sun slowly disappears behind the coconut palms, the alfresco dining pavilion overlooking the shimmering fresh water swimming pool is the perfect spot to watch the bats fly by, the stars and fireflies light up the night sky and enjoy a traditional rice and curry meal.

Villa Sublime is tucked away, down a narrow, leafy laneway inside a traditional Sri Lankan village. Its location is the ultimate escape from the busy Galle Road but close enough to everything. When the urge to explore takes hold, we’ll provide all the information you need on the local area to get you jump-started. You’ll have every opportunity to embrace the sense of life, love and energy on this magical island and experience the best of Sri Lankan culture. Whether you’re seeking the sun sand and surf, visiting an ancient temple, scuba diving the colourful coral reefs and sunken shipwrecks, riding through rice paddy fields, indulging in a traditional Ayurvedic massage, shopping for a saree, participating in a cookery class, immersing in full moon festival or just chilling by our pool with your favourite book, Villa Sublime offers you the perfect base.

• Unawatuna Bay is within walking distance or a short 5-minute tuk tuk ride away. The banana- shaped beach is fringed by lush groves of coconut palm trees and cute beach shacks. At either end of the bay is a headland to explore. Protected by twin reefs, the turquoise waters of the bay provide safe swimming all year round. Unawatuna also provides excellent snorkelling and diving opportunities. Snorkel the vibrant coral reefs or scuba dive the sunken shipwrecks. Unawatuna is full of lively stalls, trendy beach bars and cheap eats. It also provides you with all the important necessities such as ATMS, pharmacies, small supermarkets and a post office.

• The famous and historic UNESCO World Heritage listed Galle Fort is only a 10-minute ride away. Exploring this Portuguese-built and Dutch fortified 16th Century sea fort on foot is a must! Wander around its cobble-stoned laneways, which are lined with stylish cafes and restaurants, quirky boutique shops and colonial buildings. At dusk, take a stroll around the old ramparts. You’ll not only experience the tranquil ambience of a bygone era but you’ll be entertained by children flying kites, adults playing games of cricket and local couples canoodling behind the privacy of umbrellas.

• Mythical Rumasala Mountain is within walking distance or can be accessed by tuk tuk or scooter. A narrow and steep declining pathway through the jungle leads you to a small but stunning cove with calm waters. It’s called Jungle Beach. Kick back and enjoy a chilled beer from the beach bar. A unique Peace Pagoda is also located on this mountain. Built by Japanese Buddhist monks, the temple will reward you with sweeping views of the surrounding jungle and ocean below. Another great spot to enjoy a Sri Lankan sunset!

• Yatagala Raja Maha Viharaya Rock Temple is just 2 km further inland from us. Over 2300 years old the temple features a reclining Buddha and mural- covered walls. Less visited by tourists, it provides a tranquil ambience and gorgeous views over lush green rice paddy fields and small hamlets. Blissful.

• Wijaya and Dalawella Beaches are literally just down the road. They are secluded and untouched. Perfect for watching sunsets and a must visit if swinging off a palm tree over the Indian Ocean is on your bucket list!

• The village of Koggala is only a 15-minute drive from us. It’s worth visiting the Martin Wickramasinghe Folk Art Museum, where you’ll be able to explore the original 200+ year house occupied by the famous author. Take a motorised boat tour or hitch a ride in a local fisherman’s catamaran around Koggala Lake, which is full of birdlife and dotted with tiny islands, one of which contains an interesting cinnamon plantation. You may also wish to visit a local Sea Turtle Hatchery. If you do, make sure you visit one operated by a non-profit organisation whose primary aim is to promote responsible tourism and maximise the survival of sea turtles for the next generation. You may be lucky enough to witness baby turtles being released into the ocean.

• Weligama, is a 20-minute drive and is home to a long stretch of sandy beach with the perfect waves for surfers. You can also observe the famous stilt fishmen perched on their posts, waiting patiently to catch their evening meal.

• Mirissa is a little further south but has a beautiful cove with powdery pale sand. Another super spot for an invigorating swim or chillaxing on a sun bed.

• Hikkaduwa is a 30- minute drive north. Famous for its surf beach at one end and its marine park at the other. A coral sanctuary and home to several exotic fish.

We first arrived in Sri Lanka in 2004 to explore our roots and since then, have become extremely passionate and proud of what the beautiful island of Sri Lanka has to offer; a rich history, diverse cultures, vibrant colours, breathtaking scenery, exotic flavours and warm hospitality. We are not only keen to share our little slice of paradise with you but also some of our amazing experiences and genuine ‘insider’ tips. Whilst we would love the opportunity to meet ALL our guests, we spend our time drifting in and out of Sri Lanka due to work commitments and having adult children living in Australia. However, when staying in Sri Lanka, we endeavour to strike a nice balance between interacting with our guests and extending privacy to our guests. Regardless of where we are, we remain contactable at any time via phone call, message or email.

Our friendly staff will be on hand to attend to all your needs and assist you throughout your stay. Our night watchman will ensure you have that added sense of comfort and security overnight.
