National Park
“Þingvellir (Thingvellir) is a historic site and national park in Iceland, east of Reykjavík. It's known for the Alþing (Althing), the site of Iceland's parliament from the 10th to 18th centuries. On the site are the Þingvellir Church and the ruins of old stone shelters. The park sits in a rift valley caused by the separation of 2 tectonic plates, with rocky cliffs and fissures like the huge Almannagjá fault.”

“The Center of the Earth! The Snæfellsjökull glacier is 1446m above sea level. The glacier is an active volcano, having been built up through numerous eruptions during the last 800,000 years. Many believe the glacier to be one of the seven main energy centres of the earth and its mystique is noticed by many. The glacier plays big role as the Center of the Earth in the novel Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864) by Jules Verne. Snæfellsjökull is a part of the Snæfellsjökull National Park which was established on June 28, 2001. The Park's purpose is to protect and conserve the areas; the unique landscape, indigenous plants and the animal life as well as important historical relics. At the same time, the Park is meant to allow visitors easier access as well as improved opportunities to get to know the area. ”

“Right next to The Family Park and Zoo in Laugardalur you'll find the less frequently visited inner-city paradise of Grasagarðurinn; the Reykjavík Botanical Gardens. The park is home to over 5,000 different species of plants, as well as an idyllic pavilion-with-a-pond café.”

“The garden is one of the northern most botanical gardens in the world. The Public Park was opened in 1912 but the Botanic section in 1957. There are about 6600 alien taxa growing in the garden in beds and nursery and around 430 species of the native taxa. The park is very popular both by locals and visitors. The Botanical Garden is equally popular with the local population and visitors to Akureyri. A wide variety of both Icelandic and foreign flora is to be found there and new species are always being added to the collection. The garden, therefore, is an excellent choice for those wishing to take a break from the stress of daily life, playing as they do, the role both of a peaceful public park and also a beautiful plant collection. The Garden is open 1st of June to 30 September. On weekdays from 08.00-22.00 and at weekends from 09.00-22.00.”

“OK, it's quite cold to swim in the Atlantic ocean but many Icelanders still do! In all sorts of weather. However, there is also a part of the beach that is warmed up for those of us who are not wishing to freeze to death. And there is a very nice hot sitting pool as well. Showers and changing rooms available.”

“Next to the famous Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon, on the seaside, you will find a black volcanic sand beach where icebergs from the lagoon drift ashore and create the most stunning setting. Distance from the Cottage is about 276 kilometers (171 mi). ”

“Landmannalaugar is a place in the Fjallabak Nature Reserve in the Highlands of Iceland. Landmannalaugar is famous for its hiking trails. Four routes lead to Landmannalaugar and one of them is accessible by regular car, though the road is rough; stones the size of fists are not uncommon”
