City/town information

A historic market town and port, Boston was once second in importance only to London for trade. It's position in English life gave rise to the very large church at the town's centre - the largest parish church in England - with its tower visible for miles around across the flat landscapes. Known locally as 'The Stump', it appears as a single standing structure rising from the fenland that surrounds the area. In the early 1600s, a group of persecuted religious separatists left Boston bound for the New World. The settlers gave their town's name to a new cousin which is now the much larger city in the American state of Massachusetts.
