Información sobre la ciudad

This small village in the heart of Serra de Tramuntana is in one of the most beautiful spots of the island. From the house you can walk to the village, stop by some café or restaurant (we recommend you Son Tomas restaurant) and buy some groceries and souvenirs. The beach is a small rock beach with access through some stairs, but the effort is worthy because of the clear and deep water you’ll find. From the house you can also walk to the Torre de ses Animes, a watchtower built in 1579 to defend the coast from the numerous incursions of Turkish and Muslim pirates. Near "Sa torre de ses Ànimes" we find a small cove called "Es Port de Sa Pedra de s'Ase”. Banyalbufar is the starting point of many hiking trails. You will find information at the village and in photos posted on Airbnb.

I recommend you enter Palma through the Paseo Maritimo and park in the “Catedral parking”. From there you can walk through the entire old center: Catedral (La Seu), S'Almudaina, walk through the streets behind the Cathedral, it is what the Jewish quarter used to be, with its interior patios, many of them open, the Ajuntament and the Plaza Mayor. From the Plaza Mayor you can go down to The Ramblas and return to the Cathedral through San Jaime and El Born, which are the most commercial streets. Near El Born there are small old streets with craft shops and art galleries. You will find good restaurants and bars throughout the neighborhood. Back on the Paseo Maritimo you can get to La Llotja where they hold temporary exhibitions. Dirving you can go to Castillo de Bellver, it is one of the few round castles in Spain, with magnificent views of the City and surrondings. As a curiosity, at the end of El Paseo Marítimo going towards Cala Major, you’ll find the Palacio de Marivent, summer residence of the Kings of Spain. If you want to buy Sobrasadas go to El Mercado del Olivar (close to Plaza de España). You can have the typical Chocolate with ensaimadas in Can Joan de S'aigo or a hazelnut ice cream. On the Paseo Maritimo, you can eat at El Pesquero. Here you have this link with info on restaurants, I don't know most of them but I see that there are several restaurants with a Michelin star. Let me know which ones are worth it! https://www.abc-mallorca.es/mejores-restaurantes-mallorca/

The northern part of the island is the wildest, natural heritage of humanity, the Serra de Tramuntana is characterized by being the meeting point of the mountains with the sea. Each of the villages that you will find there has a particular character due to the isolation that they had between them: • Valldemosa: One of the most beautiful villages in Mallorca. You must visit La Cartuja and Frédéric Chopin and George Sand Museum. (http://www.celdadechopin.es) • Deia: charming town with impossible streets and astonishing views. Some of its illustrious inhabitants are Michael Douglas, Robert Graves In your way to Deia from Banyalbufar, you will find Sa Foradada, an astonishing view point.

Driving to the north la Serra de Tramontana you would reach Soller. You also have access from Palma, through the Tunel de Soller. Tourist usually go to Soller by train from Palma, it is a panoramic wooden touristic train, which leaves from the Plaza de España. It is a good excursion. Once in the city of Soller, there is a tram that takes you to the port. El Puerto de Soller has a big beach facing the bay, surrounded by high mountains and with a beautiful promenade full of restaurants and small shops.

Driving to the north you would reach Sa Calobra y Cala Tuent. It is a small road full of curves, do not be scared, those who drive the buses that you will see coming from the front, know the road perfectly. Have a taste here: https://youtu.be/azpxHbUyuOw • If you are going to spend the day, I recommend swimming in Cala Tuent, since there is practically no one there. It is where one of the Estrella Dam commercials was filmed, it is a cove with rocks typical of the Serra de Tramuntana, but it is just below Puig Major, the highest mountain on the island, and the setting is impressive. There are very few tourists. • It is better to go to Sa Calobra in the afternoon, that is why I tell you about swimming in Cala Tuent, since it is normally full of buses and tourists. It is the mouth of a torrent and is quite a unique site. There you can also bathe although it is a very small beach and is usually full of people

Driving to the north you would reach Pollensa. It is a village that has been restored very well, with curious streets and shops. El Puerto de Pollensa, is a very beautiful bay with impressive views of Formentor and Alcudia. I dont’ recommend swinning at this beach. If you follow the indications to go to Formentor, you will reach a viewpoint with spectacular views. You can drive to Formentor Beach, a beach of pine trees with white sand, but the parking fee is expensive.

This is the part of Mallorca that I know the least, sorry about that! You can visit las cuevas de Arta, they hang over the sea and the view is astonish. This coast is full of small coves, many of which remain virgin. As I dont know them, so, here you have an useful link: https://es.balearity.com/playas/mallorca/arta

Lugares emblemáticos

For me, one of the best beaches I have ever been to, ES TRENC, Very similar to the Caribbean ones, changing palm trees for pine trees. The beach is very long and has a nudist part. When you arrive to Es Trenc you will see that there is a parking lot only for the Restaurant, enter there, pay the ticket. To access to the beach, you go inside the restaurant and order a rice dish. When you pay for your meal, they will return the price of the parking. The restaurant has showers that you can use. Small ferries leave from Colonia de Sant Jordi to Cabrera island, it is a day trip, and you spend most of it on the boat, but once there, you get off, walk around the island and swim You can visit the Salines d’es Trenc in your way to the beach. https://www.flordesal.com/es

Gastronomía

On the other side of the island, from Palma to the south you will find the most touristic spots that you may want to avoid. It’s worthy to stop by Puerto Portals, a fancy marina where the yachts of the rich people dock, and you can see them. This marina is full of restaurants, bars, and small stores.

Mallorca 2022

This is not a guide, is just a summary of tips made by a local who does not live in the island anymore! Important: rent a car, do not trust public transportation. The distances are small so you can visit the whole island in about 5-7 days.

Serra de Tramontana

You can drive from Sant Elm to Banyalbufar. It’s a road full of curve but one of the most beautiful you have ever drive, especially in the evening, when you can enjoy wonderful sunsets. It has many viewpoints although the most visited one is Sa Foradada, placed north of Banyalbufar driving between Valldemosa and Deia.
