Historical sources indicate that the statue surfaced in northern Thailand in the Lannathai kingdom in 1434. One account of its discovery tells that lightning struck a chedi in Wat Pa Yia (Bamboo Forest Monastery, later renamed Wat Phra Kaew) in the Chiang Rai, revealing a Buddha covered with stucco inside. The Buddha was then placed in the abbot's residence, who later noticed that stucco on the nose had flaked off, revealing a green interior. The abbot removed all the stucco and found a Buddha image made of a green semi-precious stone, which became known as Phra Kaew Morakot or the Emerald Buddha. "Emerald" here simply means "green coloured" in Thai.[5][6] Some art historians describe the Emerald Buddha as belonging to the Chiang Saen Style of the 15th century AD, which would mean it is of Lannathai origin.

Wat Pho Man Khunaram is regarded as one of the most beautiful Chinese temples in Bangkok. Built in 1959 by a Chinese spiritual master who later became the temple’s first abbot, the Buddhist arts in this beautiful temple are a wonderful blend of Thai, Chinese, and Tibetan styles. The temple ground covers an area of 5 acres and the monastery was completed at a total construction cost of around 30 million baht. In 1970, HM King Bhumibol came to perform the raising of a tiered umbrella to be placed on the top of the main building of the temple. He also granted the placement of his royal initials above the entrance to the temple and named the principal Buddha Image “Phra Buddha Vachara Bodhikhun” in 1971.
The artistic excellence of Wat Pho Man Khunaram is widely known and it is often referred to as the most beautiful and magnificent Chinese temple in Thailand and perhaps in all Southeast Asia.
Wat Pho Man is presently the center of the Chinese Order of Buddhist Monks in Thailand and is a sign of the continued progress and advancement in Buddhist learning. Many Buddhist followers and tourists both domestic and foreign have come to the temple to pay respect, to carry out their religious devotions including the making of merits or simply to see and marvel at the exceptional beauty and serenity of the place. Wat Pariwat is a temple with some unusual features. In the central courtyard, there are two buildings which are currently being refurbished. One has the traditional Thai style figures under the eaves. The other... includes pirates, cowboys, Che Guevara, Tutenkhamun, and the list goes on! Maybe not the biggest or most important temple, but surely one of the most unique. Getting here, you take the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) from near Chong Nonsi Skytrain station, to Wat Pariwat station.
