This park is unique because of the fabulous sea turtles, a must see while in the Hilo area. Signs warn not to harass them, but they generally come up very close to you. Good for snorkeling.

This zoo is supported by the Hawaii County and it is fabulous for its size (12 acres). It is close to Makoa Kabin, just on the way into Hilo. I took my kindergarten class there last year and they loved the two tigers, Sriracha (orange) and Tzatziki (white). Free admission and the botanical gardens add to your visit.

This beach is about 1 hour, 20 min. from my house. From the parking lot you can take a shuttle down to the beach for $20/person or walk the 3+ mi each way. Ride is very bumpy- I would not drive it. Quite an adventure all around!

Arts & Culture
This is more than an art gallery. It is the original place Mark Twain and others stayed in the 1800's before it was even a National Park. After the implosions I went to make sure it wasn't damaged. Original wood and fireplace make it a unique structure.
