Small and intimate setting with fantastic food. This is higher priced for the area but well worth it for a special evening out.

There is a new kid in town! This was the old Camp 61 motel and restaurant and new in 2021 it is now Red Raven North. Red Raven has been in the Crosby, MN area for a while and now they have opened a second location. If you are familiar at all with the Crosby location, you will know that these owners really have bike rental and limited menu restaurant items really figured out. The food here is excellent! Be sure you try out either the breakfast menu or the soup and sandwich menu in the afternoon. You won't be disappointed.

Parks & Nature

Rugged hiking with rock jumping. May not be great for small children as certain tones of the year the river runs strong but it is sure worth stopping to take a look at the falls.

Travel north on Hwy 61 for approximately 30 miles to the town of Schroeder to Temperance River State Park. This is about a 6 mile moderate hiking trail. Trails wind along both sides of the river past eight pools and seven overlooks with sheer rocky ledges. It's easy hiking but you need to use caution. Maps are available at Temperance River State Park.

This is a tourist favorite stop. The hiking is easy but you really need to use caution, especially with kids along. The waterfalls can be very strong with some higher vista areas. This is a must see if you are in the area and if the crowds aren't huge.

Outdoor Activities/Hiking Spots

This could well be under Parks and Nature, but just wanted to be a little more specific to explain some favorite spots to hike or just be outside doing any activity you love.
This place fabulous in all seasons for a day trip. Winter down hill skiing, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing are great, but be sure to look up their hours as they tend to close the ski trails before it gets dark. Spring, summer and fall are also great for a visit to Lutsen Mountain as you can hike the trails, ride the mountain tram to the top of the mountains, or take a ride on the Alpine Slide.

https://superiorhiking.org/know-before-you-go/ This is a long distance trail that follows the Lake Superior shore from Two Harbors to the Canadian border. Trailheads are located at most County Road crossings and also state parks. Current maps are available from state park offices, local businesses and from the Superior Hiking Trail Association in Two Harbors. We also try to keep a few maps stocked in the property but can't guarantee we will have some on hand. These trails are beautiful and in the spring time there are usually lots of wildflowers, the summertime brings all kinds of wild berries (but don't eat them) and the fall offers breathtaking colors. Be sure you do your homework before setting out as this entire trail is over 200 miles.

Palisade Head is just north a short drive out of Beaver Bay, straight north on Hwy 61. It is a steep drive up to the top of the park where there is a good parking lot. This is easy hiking around the top of Palisade Head with fantastic views, but be very cautious as there are very steep cliffs.

This is a favorite spot, especially if you love rocks. It is located just north of Beaver Bay off of Hwy 61 before you get to Silver Bay. Just look for the sign to turn off on the right side of the highway. and follow down to the right. This beach is full of all kinds of rocks and many locals can be seen sitting on the edge of the water searching for agates. The beach itself if full of large rocks that are fun to look at, but wear good footwear as it hurts the feet to walk barefoot.

An absolute favorite hiking spot for us! This is just a short drive north on Hwy 61 to Silver Bay, keep on 61 and you will find the signs for it. There is a visitors center to pick up some great maps and info. There are several hikes from the visitors center, so make sure you plan your way. The Cascades Trail from the Visitor Center is the only trail that follows the river, so it allows for some fishing access. In case the visitors center is not open, the best way to access this trail from the visitors center is to walk past the parking lot and toward the river. Follow PARK ROAD and cross the old bridge over the Baptism River. At the end of the bridge take the stairway, on your left, under the bridge and follow the trail upstream. Return on the same trail. This is about a 1.5 mile hike roundtrip and it is a moderate to moderately difficult trail. There is also a High Falls Trail from the Visitors Center which is about a 3 mile hike roundtrip.
