Betto & Mary is cosy and chaotic local restuarant, a Torpignattara institution. The walls of Betto & Mary are plastered with postcards, photos and Roman proverbs. When you go to Betto e Mary there’s no need to dress up. Just make sure you go with an appetite and ideally carnivorous cravings. There’s no written menu, so the waiter pulls up a chair at your table and recites the menu for the day. Via dei Savorgnan 99, 00176, Rome

Lest you forget you are in Rome, toward the end of Via di Tor Pignattara is a modest park - Parco Giordano Sangalli - with a pleasant view of a segment of Acquedotto Alessandrino (Aqua Alexandrina). Built in 226 AD, it is the last of 11 ancient Roman aqueducts. The park is a play area for babies and a meeting point for locals. It is rather surreal to see what once was a marvel of engineering but now is a largely ignored backdrop to a park in a corner of the city.
