It's beautiful! Wander through the rose garden, visit the Royal Observatory and then view the river, Canary Wharf and the City from the viewpoint. At the bottom of the hill is the Maritime Museum, and there are cafes in case you get peckish. It's huge, allow a bit of time to take it all in, it's a really lovely place.

Blackheath is huge, and makes for a lovely walk, especially if you're heading to one or two of the many pubs, shops and restaurants that are on the other side. There's lots of history to soak up - armies used to gather there before invading London and Dick Turpin meant it was unsafe for travellers in the 18th century.

They almost ploughed a road through it a few years back, but somehow Oxleas Wood survived. The Thames Barrier is moveable flood defence and it’s actually quite impressive even if it does sound boring. When needed, it is closed (raised) during high tide; at low tide, it can be opened to restore the river’s flow towards the sea. Walk along the Thames footpath and take a look at this strange structure.

They say it's the biggest museum of its kind in the world, and it's packed with true tales of exploration, discovery and disaster. When Nelson defeated Napoleon in 1805, he was badly injured and later died on the HMS Victory. Go and see his coat, complete with bullet hole and bloodstains - a brutal reminder of our volatile naval history.

It may not be The Queen’s current house, but The Queen’s House in Greenwich is still worth visiting. A former Royal Residence, the building is one of the most important buildings in British architectural history, being the first consciously classical building to have been constructed in the country. Today its part of the National Maritime Museum and is used to display maritime paintings and portraits and was also used as a VIP centre for the London 2012 Olympics.

The Crystal is a high tech modern take on cities the world over. The main exhibition at the Crystal outlines the challenges faced in developing sustainable cities. There are a series of zones featuring each of the must-haves which a sustainable city depends on, such as ‘Clean and green’, ‘Water is Life’ ‘Go electric’ and so on. It might not sound like it but it’s extremely interesting to see what the future of cities could look like.
