A must visit if you are over in Alnwick. The old railway station waiting rooms have been adapted (not converted!) into a book lover's paradise. A constant supply of filter coffee in the waiting room, with a self-serve honesty box, can be drunk in front of an open fire on chilly days. The station buffet serves excellent freshly prepared lunches and snacks.
If you have been meaning to clear out your old books take a look at the website for details of how they operate. The only question is whether you will in fact return with more than you took in!

Birtley is a lovely village, with walks from our doorstep of varying lengths on quiet lanes and across country. The verges are beautiful throughout the year, from snowdrops in the late winter to scabious and rosehips in late summer, with cowslips, violets, marsh orchids, water avens, wild geraniums and knapweed taking centre stage in between.
