Texas has great state parks. I would avoid them in from mid July until the end of August unless you are uber hearty, or have lots of water and plan a shaded trip. Texas is HOT in the Summer time. See the TPWD Geocaching page if you want some additional motivation and direction for visiting a specific park.

Downtown Houston has an underground tunnel scene filled with restaraunts, including some Houston's finest, all suitably set up for the downtown lunch crowd. Its worth googling and exploring. I don't know if much is open on the weekends.

Cutest coffee shop in town. My favorite order is the Mexican Mocha with coconut milk with a shot of beet juice. , hot or cold. Beet juice in coffee, who knew, so damn good.
They have a decent menu as well.
