Food Scene
One of the first things I get my hands on is the “Turbo” at Cafe Chocolate when I come back to Lititz. Nothing like it in all of NY. Maybe it’s due to the previous owner's traveling around the globe in search of the perfect chocolate for her recipes. Maybe it’s the smell of Wilbur chocolate wafting thru my Lititz upbringing ... Or because I've become such the “chocolate snob.” The Turbo is the perfect Mocha in my book. In the 60s, my Dad brought me here to "Benners" so he could have the 5cent cup of coffee ... (and I something from the "soda jerk."). That 1950s counter still presides. I order the Cubano or the hickory smoked chicken. End with a choc-dipped kiwi. A Lititz Must-see.

The Moravian Church and Linden Hall School for girls are a great place to start when exploring historic Lititz. Beautiful Moravian Church is flanked by the 1759 Single Sisters House (Linden Hall Castle) and the 1759 Single Brothers House which was commandeered by General Washington as a military hospital in 1777. In back is the cemetery with famed General Sutter burial site. The Moravians play a special role in Lititz history and traditions of townsfolk. Easter mornings Lititz can be filled not only with the sound of Amish horse & buggies journeying to worship but with the Moravians' own Trombone choir, which starts playing through the town at 4am. Where else?

I can never eat a soft hot pretzel from anywhere else; Sturgis hot pretzels are just that good. It's not a "3-hour" tour (thank goodness) but a 3-dollar tour where you can learn how to make a pretzel (the way they did back before hard pretzels were made) in this original home of the pretzel. Nice to sit by the big kitschy pretzel out front (you can't miss it if driving by), and eat your hot soft pretzel with or without mustard. Across from beautiful Linden Hall castle.

Julius Sturgis Pretzel Leipomo

The rail road museum is fascinating for all ages. I've been there several times and it never disappoints. Took my daughter to see Thomas the Train when a tot; kids go gaga over this event as you can imagine. It's like DisneyLand. They will never forget you did that. There's a miniature train museum too for train afficiandos. There is also a Red Caboose Lodge in which a train car is your hotel room. And, there's an authentic steam engine train excursion. There's something ironic about taking an authentic 1800s era coal-burning locomotive through the Amish countryside in the 21st century, but that's Paradise in PA.

This may not be the thing for everyone, but because my grandfather was a watchmaker, time stands still for me in this beautiful place. Hearing the tick tocks of many timekeepers and learning about their history makes me feel at home. Historically, as the pocket watch was invented just in time to catch a train, a visit to the Strasburg Railroad museum, a half hour away, might be the perfect accompaniment to your sightseeing adventures ... if you can find the time.

Hearing the tick tocks of many timekeepers and learning about their history makes me feel at home. Historically, as the pocket watch was invented just in time to catch a train, a visit to the Strasburg Railroad museum, a half hour away, might be the perfect accompaniment to your sightseeing adventures ... if you can find the time.

A little kids' dream, this park is bustling with activities like live music July 4th weekend, holidays or craft shows. On your average day, it's a quiet, pretty park to relax with family. Little ones (and adults alike) feed the ducks, so take plenty of quarters. Free Parking, clean bathrooms, pavilions, fountains, a playground for the young and another for the younger. Browse the old train station tourist info. Walk across street to Wilbur chocolate, ice cream shop and Purple Turtle Consignment or have a bite at Tomato Pie. West end of park is 150-yr-old lion sculpture, a nod to same in Lititz's homeland, Lucerne, Switzerland. Stairs up rocks take you to Lititz Springs Pools and Rec.

The Wolf Sanctuary is an 80-acre home for the wolves to run wild, er at least think they are. They provide food and veterinary care for the wolves. Saturday and Sunday tours cost $7.00 and there is a $5.00 fee per camera. Thanks for supporting this great cause.

I loved growing up with the smell of chocolate wafting through Lititz. No more. I always get the dark chocolate covered almonds. Back home I've given gifts of Wilbur chocolate covered pretzels which people have gone gaga over. I always stop there before I head home. Cuz Wilbur chocolate rocks.

Growing up, I thought everyone had a Green Dragon near their town. Although it does seem to be out in the middle of nowhere, you can't miss that sign! Open on Fridays (8am to 8pm), my folks would wait to buy stuff there - because if you couldn't find it at The Green Dragon, "it's prolly not worth gettin." The Pennsylvania Dutch accent abounds at this place so I always feel at home. The "small animal" auctions are the most fun. Grab a homemade ice cream from a farm stand inside. I can't remember the name of the family but the memory of their luscious buttery ice cream directs me straight thru the whole darn place to that ice cream stand. No mind it could be years ... Enjoy!

Open on Fridays (8am to 8pm), my folks would wait to buy stuff there - because if you couldn't find it at The Green Dragon, "it's prolly not worth gettin." The Pennsylvania Dutch accent abounds at this place so I always feel at home. The "small animal" auctions are the most fun. Grab a homemade ice cream from a farm stand inside. I can't remember the name of the family but the memory of their luscious buttery ice cream directs me straight thru the whole darn place to that ice cream stand. No mind it could be years ... Enjoy!
Many items in Lititz Haus are from Ten Thousand Villages. I love their eco handcrafted items AND their cafe. It's a nice, civilized place to shop before hitting The Green Dragon. ; ) Beautiful, useful items from artisans around the world. Gifts which I've gotten from this store have always been a hit -- even with the Hamptons set.

It's a nice, civilized place to shop before hitting The Green Dragon. ; ) Beautiful, useful items from artisans around the world. Gifts which I've gotten from this store have always been a hit -- even with the Hamptons set.

I grew up with the family which owned the Sutter in the 70s. Well it has come a long way since then. Current owners RILLY know what they're doing. The fine dining serves up delicious. Separately, Bulls Head "Pub" has become the go-to meetup place for drinks and food fare as well. Though it can get crowded and noisy weekends. But maybe cuz I'm old -- or lived too long in Manhattan-- what I love most about The Sutter is Wednesday night Trivia. In Summertime, in the grand weather, people converge on the patio dining tables around 6pm, sometimes in groups which become "teams" and they have dinner followed by Trivia. (Make reservations). It sure is fun.
