Favorite Restaurants in Katy

I'm gonna be straight with you. If you're a foodie, you won't like most restaurants in Katy. But there are some hidden gems right around the corner that should not be missed! I mean it, I would put these places up against one-star Michelin restaurants.
Cash only! Breakfast tacos are amazing, but, really EVERYTHING is good here!
Taqueria Tex-Taco
2864 Katy Hockley Cut Off Rd

The address for this is wrong, but I couldn't correct it. It's a truck that parks by Hockley Cut Off Road, right by the Citgo station. Order a whole rotisserie chicken for every 2-3 people. You'll get some sides and can make little burritos. The salsa is spicy and delicious. I also like to add my own sour cream because the spice level can get out of control (but in a good way)!
Pollos y Carne Asadas El Norteno

Upscale Malaysian food with attentive, kind service. Never had Malaysian food before? No worries, it will feel familiar because it has international influences. My faves: roti canai and sizzling tofu. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

There are many boba/tea places around here, and in my opinion, this is the best. If it's a Thurs-Sunday, order the "Black Pearl Tiger with Cheese Foam". There's no caffeine in it, and it's something like warm tapioca pearls in brown sugar topped with milk and cream cheese whip. It's a giant sweet/salty/tangy sugar bomb, and it's SO GOOD. They also have a drink with rainbow popping boba, which I think I would have died for as a kid.

Ok, where do I start? The grocery store is a wonder in itself, but the eatery is a great place for a large group to get lunch or dinner. They have a variety of Asian and Asian-fusion foods, and I think everyone will leave happy here. My personal highlights: Hoodadak popcorn chicken (I like the sweet and spicy, and my 6-year-old likes the soy ginger; also be sure to get pickled daikon with your chicken), Oh my gogi (this would be the best late night/after the bar food, but it's good anytime), Donkey Yaki (everything I've had here is like comfort food, and it actually reminds me of Spanish tapas).

- Bobotie! (pronounced buh-booty) - it's like something your mom would make but better. - Meat hanging from a stick! Enough said. - STICKY TOFFEE CHEESECAKE! Yes, that's a thing. Get it! So I love the food here, the service is excellent, which is not common in Katy, but the best part is... your kids can run around while you eat. The restaurant overlooks a turf area where kids can run and play. We like to get there around 4:30 to be sure we can get a table outside and let our kid play. Just bring sunscreen and mosquito repellant and enjoy a long dinner.

This place has great donuts, but if you're not from Texas, please try the kolaches!

Favorite Restaurants in Houston

Houston was literally built on a swamp. It's hot, humid, and full of mosquitos. What is there to do here? EAT!
My favorite restaurant(s). The Pass has an affordable price-fixed tasting menu, but you can add on extras. You can add several extra courses and/or a caviar course (expensive, but so fun for a group of about four). They also have a caviar cart and an absinthe cart, the latter of which is our personal favorite. Provisions is a great brunch spot, and we recommend the bread with prosciutto. The bar is also a great spot.

Adorable, intimate restaurant with great food. Be sure to make reservations. It's good for two or four, and I think it's a special, unique experience.

This used to be our neighborhood coffee shop, and we love the owner, Helen, and all the baristas. Helen is a coffee expert, and she even recently placed fourth in the US Cup Tasters Championship. They make a mean latte, but if you want something really high-end and special, they can hook you up, too. It's near the Galleria, so if you're going there, stop by Luce first. (You can also grab kolches at The Kolache Shoppe.)
