Our Favorite Restaurants

When I travel, I love to experience the local restaurants. The locals always know the best places to eat, so here's what we've discovered.
Great place for breakfast and you'll get a feel for our little La Verne and it's small town vibe. Walk over, it's just a half a mile away.

OMG! Love this little Italian restaurant. Our favorite for sure. Walk on over, it's only a half a mile in downtown La Verne. Famous for their Chicken Marsala, but I also like the Farfalle con Gamberetti and luscious chocolate cake.

This is the Mexican restaurant! Good big, cheezy dishes with hearty beans and rice and the best Margaritas ever. You may want to call an Uber for this evening.

This restaurant is the best kept secret. All us locals know about it and it gets quite busy. Great authentic Mexican food and nothing fancy. We have been known to go at least once a week. The best chili rellenos ever!!!

My Favorite Hiking Trails

I hike a lot and these are my favorite and nearby trails. Enjoy!
This trail is a 5 mile loop. It is a challenge with an elevation climb of about 1200 feet. Beautiful, quiet and close (approx. 4 miles from our house). It feels safe hiking here as there are many regulars and park rangers monitor the trail regularly. This trail is a favorite of mountain bikers as well. You will see deer and other critters. I've seen 2 bears over the years. Of course there are mountain lions, but I've yet to see any. Parking is $5-$7 in the lots nearby.

This trail is easy and paved. It runs along the bottom of the foothills in Claremont and can be accessed near the lower parking lot at the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park or at Higgenbothan Park in Claremont. You can make a nice 4 mile walk if you go the length to Towne Ave. and back. Pretty with lots of trees and shade. Bikes are welcome too.

This is where you will get access to many trails, big, small, and remote. Best to go with a buddy if you want to explore more remote areas as it is vast. You will see some small and challenging trails here as well with people around. Us locals call these trails "Poop Out" (lower) and "Punk Out" (higher). Not much shade and it gets hot!

This is where you should start your hikes in the area if you are not familiar. Get your maps and parking passes and you're on your way. Lots of trail options. Strenuous and higher elevations (up to 10,000 ft.) can be attempted here or more mild climbs as well. Bring water, food, and an extra jacket, gloves, and warm hat if you plan an all day excursion up to the top. I've been to the top and it's cold and windy!

Lots of trails throughout this area. The Bridge to Nowhere can be accessed in this area. It tends to get crowded during peak times.

Great local hike with a variety of trails, distance, and view choices. I like the 4.75 loop up to the top and around the upper canyon hills. Elevation up to about 1800 feet with a great view of the valley below. Good trail for mountain bike riding as well. Horse back riding is available too.
