This museum houses the world’s largest collection of American jade (pronounced ‘ha-day’ in Spanish), with an ample exhibition space of five floors offering seven exhibits. There are nearly 7000 finely crafted, well-conserved pieces, from translucent jade carvings depicting fertility goddesses, shamans, frogs and snakes to incredible ceramics (some reflecting Maya influences), including a highly unusual ceramic head displaying a row of serrated teeth. The new museum cafe, Grano Verde, serves sandwiches, salads and smoothies.

At Gran Terminal del Caribe you can find buses to: Puerto Viejo* , Río Frío, Guápiles, Guácimo, Cariari, Squirres, Pocora, Limón, Peñas Blancas. This terminal also has a website with all of the schedules. Check it out here: grupocaribenos. Update on their website: something is weird on the site these days, maybe best to check the FB https://www.facebook.com/grupocaribenos/ Note that the Puerto Viejo destination here is not the popular caribean beach location near the Panama border. This bus leaves from the Terminal MEPE.

The Avenida Central (Central Avenue) is one of the busiest avenues of San José since there and in its surroundings most of the touristic attractions are located. You can find cultural attractions in this area such as the emblematic Central Bank, Presentes Plaza and Cultura Plaza. As far as city squares go, Plaza de la Cultura leaves much to be desired. That’s because its unremarkable architecture and mostly concrete designs tend to make it one of the less visually pleasing squares in this colorful city. Still, travelers in search of a true taste of San Jose life will do well to visit this busy square, where locals gather after weekend shopping trips and stay well into the night
