Sightseeing

Go early in high season as this is a really popular place to visit. Also, check tide times and opening times out of high season. A beautiful place to visit and explore. You can enjoy lunch in the eateries of Marizion or take a picnic and eat on the beach overlooking the mount. This is National Trust but you have to pay for parking on private land in high season.

Approx. 21 mins from the house. We love it here! It’s a great spot with a small kiosk café and loos between the car park and the beaches. The café is open longer hours during peak season but not all year round. The car park is National Trust, so free for members. Enjoy beautiful coastal walks from here if you wish to take a stroll. There is a wave for surfers if the conditions are right, and it’s also perfect for kayaking or paddle boarding on a calmer day. If you wish to BBQ here, there are plenty of sheltered spots on Dollar Cove situated next to Church Cove. You can also step inside a sweet little church which is nestled into the rock between these two coves. It’s open for visitors all year round. You can also watch the sunset from here, which is a real treat! Please Note: Opening times of the Café and Church are subject to change due to Covid-19. Please check ahead before your visit.

Secluded and romantic, Prussia Cove has an olde-world poetic feel, and is famous as being the home of the Carter family, The family were smugglers in the 18th century, one of whom, Harry Carter became known as the King of Prussia. Formerly called the King's Cove, Prussia Cove is on the coast of Mount's Bay to the east of Cudden Point. It is a small, quiet and intimate place which could not support larger numbers without being ruined. No lifeguard cover, but surf rescue equipment located on the beach. There is a small privately owned car park, reached along a narrow single track road, which is usually full by mid morning in the school holidays. There are no facilities. The coves are at least ten minutes walk from the car park but space and access to these depends on the tide.

When you take the short walk from the car park to Praa Sands you’ll be struck by how white the sand is, blindingly so in the sunshine. Apparently, and here’s the science, the light sand is made from seashells that have been pulverised by wave action over millions of years. Located in the south west-facing bend between the Lizard and west Penwith, the mile-long sandy beach is backed with sheltering sand dunes and its easily accessible position is enjoyed by families having fun in the shallows while further out the surf brigade take on some surprisingly big waves. A wonderful destination if you have kids to entertain, they’ll love the beach which is great for sandcastles, the shoreline is great for splashing about in and you won’t have to walk miles from the car park. Also, it’s a pretty good stop off point just for a coffee where you can sit back and soak up the sun.

Blasted by the breeze off the Atlantic, the magnificent beach at Gwithian Towans is always a colourful scene of windsurfers and kites in the sky. Backed by sand dunes tufted with wild grass, at low tide there is a vast amount of sand to enjoy and large areas of rock pools and caves are uncovered which are great for kids to explore. The beach is a favourite destination for surfers as the constant swell coming in from the ocean provides good all year round conditions. Common seals are a regular sight near the beach and the area is a breeding ground for colonies of seabirds such as guillemots, razorbills and cormorants. The Sunset Surf beachside café and bar overlooks the beach and is open all year, serving locally sourced, seasonal ingredients wherever possible and nearby the Jam Pot Café and Shop, a former 19th century coastguard lookout, is where you can enjoy home cooked snacks and be distracted by the stunningly natural views out over St Ives Bay. Access to the beach is along a path through the sand dunes from the car park. Large areas of rock pools, which are great for kids to explore, some caves too. Weekend lifeguard cover in April. Full lifeguard cover from the 5th of May until the 30th of September. Weekend lifeguard cover in October and full cover from the 20th-28th of October (2018). Please note - Café and toilet opening times and services are subject to change due to Covid-19. We strongly advise you check before your visit.

"In a beautiful, sheltered valley overlooking St Michael’s Mount; the woods, stream and dramatic vistas provide the perfect setting for large-scale exotic and sub-tropical planting at Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens in Cornwall. Interwoven with the planting is an evolving programme of contemporary artwork by internationally renowned artists such as James Turrell, David Nash and Richard Long, who have interacted with the setting to create site-specific permanent work that harmonise with the landscape." A really inspiring place to wander around especially for those who love art and gardening. The food is amazing too!

LOCATION: Porthcurno DISTANCE: Approximately 50 mins drive from us Advance booking is essential for all visits, tours and events. The Minack is a living theatre in every sense. Its dramatic setting and the remarkable woman who built it are equally inspiring. Our world famous theatre is perched on the rugged cliffs of South-West Cornwall, welcoming over a quarter of a million people each year to enjoy the stunning ocean views and experience the magic of live performance in this iconic space. Their story is also the life story of the Minack’s creator, Rowena Cade. Brought up in a genteel Edwardian family, she was inspired to transform a Cornish cliff-face into an open-air arena, much of it literally built with her own hands. Recommend visiting in fair weather or dress to embrace the elements!!
