Also known as the Red Light District, De Wallen is the oldest neighbourhood and historic centre of Amsterdam dating back to 1275. You will find, other than the world famous Dutch sex Industry, numerous monuments and museums, cafes & restaurants, "coffeehops" & smartshops. Along with many tour offices and souvenir shops. A must see & roughly 25min from my neighbourhood.

The world famous and UNESCO protected Amsterdam canal belt. The canal belt is roughly 7 km long as it horseshoes around Amsterdam beginning in the West (circa 1580) & ending in the East (circa 1660). It was built to house a growing a city in the Dutch Golden Age and was one of Europe's first urban planned cities in relation to superior water management. Take a stroll either along the Gentlemen's (Heerengracht) or the Emperors, (Keizersgracht) or the Princes Canal (Prinsengracht) to really feel like a local. It's strewn with just about everything from Cafes, "Coffeeshops", Bars & Restaurants to Museums, Boutique shops and stunning 17th century architecture.

One of favourite city parks in Amsterdam that's just North West of the Canal Belt. It features open grassy plains, lots of trees, dog obedience training facilities, lots of water features, & an old Natural Gas factory that has been beautifully renovated & turned into a collection of shops, bars, cafes & on occasion hosts festivals & day & night activities. Roughly 30 minutes from my Neighbourhood.

Personally selected tours I've been on & thoroughly enjoyed. For guests & travelers who want a little more out of their stay.
Those Dam Boat Guys is a small & locally inspired boat tour company that is quite different from the conventional canal boat tours of Amsterdam. Expect more than the run of the mill history lesson, instead be entertained by local anecdotes, stories & of course all the best bits that make Amsterdam a very unique city.

Braai is a South African inspired BBQ eatery, that for carnivores is heaven on earth. They also promote a feeling of togetherness, sharing & enjoying each others company as much as the food they serve. Highly recommended.

A visit to Amsterdam wouldn't complete if you didn't at least try a Dutch Indonesian "Rijsttafel" (Rice Table). Culturally unique to Amsterdam, Aneka Rasa is a culinary experience for the senses & I hope you enjoy my favourite Indonesian eatery in Amsterdam, located in the Red Light District.
