Beaches and walking trails

I love the outdoors and finding outstandingly lovely places to explore and enjoy fresh breezes, and hiking with my dog. Here are some of my favorites.......
From this beach you can see over to Pine Point beach. Also good for kayaking and paddle boarding with access to the Scarborough marsh. Peaceful place. This is my absolute favorite dog friendly beach. Mainly locals so usually not crowded. April 1st -August 31st plovers are nesting so the dog area is to the right side of beach. Before 9am dogs are allowed off leash with voice control. After 5 pm dogs are allowed with leash. This is a beautiful place to watch the sunset or sunrise. Also free to park during doggie allowed hours above. September through April is wide open off leash except between 1-2pm. Still incredible views with free parking throughout the winter.

Another favorite beach for walking, swimming, para sailing, kayaking and paddle boards. Has access to a sand bar at low tide. Can walk to Old Orchard Beach and beyond. Connects to 7 miles of beach. Pet friendly.

This is a wonderful trail for biking and walking. This trail goes all the way to kennebunk. It goes through the Scarborough marsh where you can bird watch. We bike ride this trail to pine point road then to pine point beach.

I recommend hiking in on the the Portland trails Fore river sanctuary Stroudwater section off Congress street. Trail goes through the marsh then beautiful wooded areas to the falls.

It's easy to get to this trailhead from our house at Highland Ave soccer fields then follow the paved greenbelt trail all the way to Bug Light park.

This is a course with 18 rounds just like golf only you are throwing a disc into a cage each round. Give it a try.
This is a super fun place to play disc golf. Dogs are allowed to tag along with you. Please read up on their dog expectations to be respectful. Bring along your favorite beverages snacks, grab a disc and enjoy.

Beautiful local park overlooking the Portland skyline and Fort Gorgeous. Known for the Kite festival Green belt trail goes here so can easily bike to here from my house.

Walking trails and lot's of picnic areas. This place offers a playground and restrooms. To see the two light houses, go past the park entrance and follow until it dead ends onto a small beach. You can see them both from there.

Sightseeing and activities

20 minute ferry ride on Casco bay lines from Portland's waterfront. Bring a bike or your dog and walk or bike around the island. Island vibe is very relaxing. There are golf cart rentals as well. A few small restaurants and an ice cream store.

I'm a pescatarian and my hubby is a carnivore. The food offerings were very sophisticated for a brewpub. I couldn't decide between the sweet potato, quinoa, pinto beans burger or the southwest quinoa salad. The beer was also fantastic!
