The Cataract Ggorge is open daily 365 days of the year and is free to the public. There is a steep entrance but there is a lift that can take you down. Great childrens playground,swimming pool amd bar-b-ques also free to use. 10 min walk from my house, steep walk back or 5 min drive. The Quenn Victoria Museum is also open 365 days of the year. It is also free there is sometimes charges for the main exhibits
The main entrance leads to Launceston's beautiful Cataract Gorge, a recreation hub to swim, walk, run, dine, enjoy nature and simply relax. From the First Basin, the network of walking and hiking trails take visitors through the gardens, wilderness and to panoramic lookouts. The inclinator provides access to the restaurant/cafe, shop, kiosk, First Basin lawns, swimming pools, toilets and shower facilities. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance for the Gorge Scenic Chairlift. The gorge chair lift is the longest single span chair lift in the world [308m]. Car park on site. The duck reach power station built in 1895 made Launceston the first city in the Southern Hemisphere to have hydro electric power. The peacocks at the gorge were imported between 1894 and 1901 as part of a plan to bring in some exotic talent to the area.
