Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited castle in England, and has been the home of the Percys, Earls and Dukes of Northumberland since 1309, younger visitors will recognsie the castle from the Harry Potter films. The Alnwick Garden, just a few minutes walk from Alnwick Castle, is one of the world's most exciting contemporary gardens. The Alnwick Garden is now a vibrant place, with beautifully landscaped gardens, magnificent architecture and unique features, all brought to life with water. The Garden's centrepiece is the Grand Cascade, an iconic structure and the largest water feature of its kind in the country. Inviting pathways lead among beds brimming with plants in the Rose and Ornamental Gardens, while in the intriguing Poison Garden guides share tales of deadly plants. The Serpent Garden is home to water sculptures by William Pye, and there's also the Bamboo Labyrinth and even one of the world's largest tree houses. It has wobbly rope bridges, walkways in the sky and a treetop restaurant.

The Farne Islands lie off the coast off Northumberland between Seahouses and Bamburgh, here you will find the famous brd sanctuary. One of the great attractions of the Farne Islands is the story of Grace Darling and the wreck of the Forfarshire. Grace Darling was the daughter of Longstone lighthouse-keeper, William Darling, and on September 7, 1838, at the age of 22 years, she and her father rescued nine people in a strong gale and thick fog from the wreck of the Forfarshire, which had run aground on Harker rock. The story of the rescue attracted extraordinary attention throughout Britain and made Grace Darling a heroine who has gone down in British folklore. In the warmer months the Farnes, an important wildlife habitat, are much visited by boat trips from Seahouses. Local boats are licensed to land passengers on Inner Farne, Staple Island and the Longstone; landing on other islands is prohibited to protect the wildlife. At the right time of year many puffins can be seen and these are very popular with visitors; on the Inner Farne,The islands also hold a notable colony of about 6,000 grey seals, with several hundred pups born every year in September–November.

Golf Club

Morpeth Golf Club, founded in 1906, is a private members club of approximately 950 playing and social members. Situated just 15 miles north of Newcastle, our course is one of the North East’s gems. Back in 1906 when the club was formed, the gentlemen of Morpeth initially played their golf on a field at Tranwell before moving to the club’s present location on the outskirts of the town. The course was designed by six times Open champion Harry Vardon and offers you a golfing experience that is as picturesque as it is challenging. The 18 hole parkland course set in about 130 acres of undulating Northumberland countryside is often used for national and county events. Local golf journalist Paul Corney in a recent review called the course “Magnificent Morpeth” and stated “It is quite understandable why Morpeth continues to be selected to host both national and county events- it’s just a cracking golf course”. Visitors are welcome during the week and by arrangement at weekends and Bank Holidays. After play the friendly and traditional clubhouse provides a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy a drink, snack or a meal. We look forward to welcoming you to enjoy our course and facilities. The Morpeth Golf Club clubhouse has a welcoming traditional bar, comprising lounge area, a bar area with SKY TV , a games room with two snooker tables and a darts board, a twenty seater restaurant and a function room that seats one hundred. The bar has a wide selection of cask ales, wines and spirits at competitive prices.
