While this is a Korean owned Japanese restaurant, the service and quality of the sushi and sashimi is good. They also have a variety of hot food including ramen, katsudon, and udon. Most of the hot food is not authentic in style and should be avoided unless desperate. Kura is much better than "Zorizo", the other nearby Korean-run Japanese sushi train restaurant.

This is the most famous Izakaya in Sydney with the Japanese community who live here. The food is not amazing in quality, but the prices are very low, the drink selection is vast, and the atmosphere is always social and energetic.

Located in the Star Casino's food court, Gojima specializes in burgers made with fried rice patties covered in seaweed instead of bread. Apart from that obvious change, the burgers have an authentic American fast food flavour. Gojima also serves beer, chicken wings, and a mushroom burger for the vegetarians. The fries seem to be double fried. It's worth a try, you might like it.

Miguel usually works with his wife and sometimes a few other new young staff, so be advised that food prep times can sometimes be quite long (20 minutes+).

The serving sizes are usually quite small so you can sample a few different places.

The serving sizes are usually quite small so you can sample a few different places.
If you're looking for cheap, fast coffee and a snack or light meal, Big Mouth is worth a look. It's owned by a nice Chinese lady, and it specializes in jaffles (closed toasted sandwiches), with tasty fillings like Bolognese or Italian style chicken and avocado. Freshly squeezed juice is also available. I would have overlooked this kind of place if my mum didn't try it first, but it turned out to be one of the best value eats in Pyrmont.

Din Tai Fung inside the Star's food court has been a regular for me whenever I crave dumplings and want to stay in Pyrmont. While much more expensive than Chinatown, (four dumplings here is around $6-8, whereas I can get 16 in Chinatown for $10) the dumplings are freshly made and high quality. I recommend the shrimp and pork jiaozi!

While much more expensive than Chinatown, (four dumplings here is around $6-8, whereas I can get 16 in Chinatown for $10) the dumplings are freshly made and high quality. I recommend the shrimp and pork jiaozi!
It took me a while to find a solid old fashioned English big breakfast in Pyrmont, amongst the lightweight and overpriced hipster options. The answer is Anna Li's cafe, which is quite tricky to see from the street. Like most places that still serve old fashioned Western food - it's run by an Asian guy! He does a great job with his big breakfast, fries, burgers and Viet style rolls, as well as coffees and fresh juices. All for very low prices.

Pirrama Park is a nice stretch of parkland along the water, with BBQ areas, a playground for kids, an art installation, a few jetties for boats, some restaurants and cafes nearby, and a bunch of other stuff to look at :)

If you have the cash to splash, check out the stores of Australian fashion designers along Oxford Street, Paddington. The store fitouts tend to be more unique and interesting than elsewhere - definitely the definition of "boutique". Don't expect anything to be cheap!

Getting Around
Fish Markets Light Rail stop will take you to Central station via the Casino and Chinatown, or the other direction to the inner west. You need an Opal card which can be purchased from the SUPA IGA nearby.
