Guide des Quartiers

Fabulous historical neighborhood, the cradle of the Commune in 1870, has kept the charm of old Paris with its working-class houses, paved streets and gardens. You will find plenty of bars and restaurants there, and can stroll down the quaint streets up and down the hill. A must - and a ten minute-walk from home !

I am talking about the actual Cité Universitaire, not the RER station (which is across the boulevard). Within 15 minutes from home by foot, passed the Parc Montsouris, this is well worth a visit. It hosts students from around the world, in housing and study-buildings built by famed architects from around the world (check out the Le Corbusier Maison de la Suisse !). Absolutely gorgeous to jog in, or take nice strolls along the large lawns. You can even find the best Korean food in town at the Maison de la Corée. We absolutely adore this place, and it is very far away from all the tourists.

Stores in the neighborhood

This is out go-to wine store. Talk to Brice, a very knowledgeable young owner, who will guide through his very carefully selected collection of bottles from niche wine makers around the world.

The French have a true love affair with Monoprix (and we are no exception). Upstairs is clothes and cosmetics, downstairs is a regular grocery store with a good selection of higher-end produce, cold cuts and cheeses, and everything you can possibly need from cleaning products to wine to butter and whatnot.

For all your locally sourced / organic produce, La main verte is the place to go. It has two stores: one for vegetables and fruit (and some cheese), and the dairy and meat market a few doors down.

Fabulous little treasure trove for produce and more, around the corner from the house: you will find uncalibrated fruit and vegetables, locally sourced from trustworthy small producers.
