This farm was originally owned by the George & Clara Patterson family from the 1850s. It was turned over to the City of Fremont in 1978, and the East Bay Regional Park District has operated the property as a fully functioning, turn-of-the-last-century farm since 1985. A visit here is a journey back to the time of the 1850s Patterson Ranch--a prosperous, 19th-century country estate with a beautiful Victorian mansion and elaborate Victorian Gardens.
The farm still grows the same kind of produce that was grown in the region in the last 100 years, utilizing agricultural practices from the 1870s to the present, demonstrating the transition from horse-powered to horsepower farming. The interpretive staff and volunteers, attired in Victorian clothing, guide guests through the Victorian house, demonstrate farm chores, and explain what life was like in the early 1900s. From December to mid-February monarch butterflies overwinter here.

The Bay Area Discovery Museum is a place where learning is made to be fun, and where fun encourages further learning. Every creative experience at BADM—from STEM and Art programs to permanent and traveling exhibits to special events and festivals—encourages children to engage with BADM’s seven, research-backed learning goals.
Each BADM learning goal describes a thinking skill, behavior, or strategy that children begin to learn or develop when participating in a BADM experience. What you’ll see as evidence of these learning goals varies by age, program, and each individual child; when your toddler plays next to another child in Tot Spot they’re learning to collaborate and when your 10-year-old asks questions about the 3-D printer in the Fab Lab they’re expressing their curiosity and learning how things work.
These learning goals, created by leaders from the Center for Childhood Creativity, BADM’s research and advisory division, speak to what children are able to gain from visiting our site. Read on to learn more about why each learning goal is important, and how it’s being implemented at the museum.

You don’t have to fly across the Atlantic to experience Italian romance. Authentic Venetian gondola rides have glided along Lake Merritt since 1999. The cruises come complete with traditional melodies, skilled gondoliers and beautiful views of the cityscape.
Gondola Servizio offers year-round tours by day or night, and reservations are available seven days a week. They have a variety of cruise packages with respect to duration and desired accommodations.
