(World Heritage Listed - walk around the Ancient Stones) Only 16 miles from our farm https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/avebury At Avebury, the world's largest prehistoric stone circle partially encompasses a pretty village. Archaeologist Alexander Keiller excavated here in the 1930s, and there is a museum bearing his name. Walk around the circumference and take a ribbon to place on one of the oldest Oak Trees in Britain with a message to your loved one The website mentions limited space in the carpark but of you get there early you should be fine

14 Miles from the farm Fantastic for long walks and great views The Estate at Badminton contains the remains of several Roman Villas, and Badminton is recorded in the Domesday Book as ‘Madmintune’. The medieval House was owned by the Boteler family from whom, in 1612, Edward Somerset, fourth Earl of Worcester, purchased the manors of Great and Little Badminton. Some years later, he gave Badminton to one of his sons, Sir Thomas Somerset who was the first to make what would be many significant alterations to the original House. https://www.badmintonestate.com/visit-us/

Calne - Only 9 miles from the farm Walk up to the White Horse – https://www.visitwiltshire.co.uk/calne/things-to-do/cherhill-white-horse-p1692613 Visit Cherhill White Horse, the second oldest of Wiltshire's iconic carved horse figures. The horse is a lovely destination for a countryside walk with splendid views over the pretty Wiltshire countryside! The Cherhill White Horse (sometimes called the Oldbury White Horse) is one of eight remaining White Horses in Wiltshire. It is located on the edge of Cherhill Down, near both Oldbury Castle and the Lansdowne Monument, three and a half miles from the historic town of Calne. Historically, there have been 13 chalk White Horses in Wiltshire, but now only eight remain. These eye-catching figures were made by cutting away the turf from grassy hillsides to expose the stark white chalk underneath, creating a precisely defined figure visible for miles around. This is a traditional English phenomenon, with white chalk figures (including horses and people) decorating hillsides across England – some dating back as far as 1000 BC. The White Horse here at Cherhill is the second oldest of the horse figures in Wiltshire. Cut in 1780, it was possibly inspired by Wiltshire's oldest White Horse at Westbury. In turn, the Cherhill Horse inspired the design of the Alton Barnes White Horse. Today, the Cherhill White Horse is maintained by a group of volunteers who weed and re-chalk the figure every couple of years.

only 18 miles from the farm The Kennet and Avon Canal cuts through Devizes and had a part to play in the town’s early-19th century development. Just east of the town is possibly the most scenic piece of the entire waterway as it overcomes a rise of 72 metres with the help of a flight of 29 locks. The locks are in three groups in the course of two miles, ascending into the town. These are all the work of the renowned Scottish engineer John Rennie, and the flight was the last portion of the canal to be completed before it opened in 1810. As with the rest of the canal the locks went into decline after the Second World War before a long-term restoration from the 60s to the 90s. In 1996 a pump was built at the bottom of the flight in Foxhangers, able to lift seven tonnes of water to the top of the hill each day. The Caen Hill Locks are an easy and very picturesque stroll west along the towpath from Devizes. https://www.thecrazytourist.com/15-best-things-to-do-in-devizes-wiltshire-england/

Only 19 miles from the farm Lovley walks, and the river also runs through Marlborough A very pretty Market Town, there are also lovley walks along the river In 1086, Marlborough was recorded in the Domesday Book as 'Merleberge'. In later years it was a place where coins were minted, Tudor kings hunted for deer and coaches heading west from London stopped to feed and water their horses. It would seem therefore, that the town was at the heart of things in days gone by.

Only 11 Miles from the Farm The Home of Harry Potter - much of the films were shot on location here as well as many other well loved films such as Pride and Prejudice, Downton Abbey, Cranford, The White Princess and Emma to name but a few Its a beautiful village with many home owners selling home made produce with an honesty box outside. There are lots of little shops and a river that runs through with a great sandy patch which is popular for Wild Swimming! There is also a Carboot every Sunday (weather permitting on the outskirts of the village) The name Lacock dates from Saxon times when the earliest permanent settlers lived by the Bide Brook, which runs through the middle of the village. They called it lacuc or 'little stream'. The medieval landscape was dominated by Melksham Forest , which came right up to the village and stretched for 33 miles to the south and east. Settlement began around the church, reflected in the irregular line of Church Street, but the rest is a medieval planned town, deliberately laid out on a grid of the other streets which can be seen today. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/lacock-abbey-fox-talbot-museum-and-village/features/a-historic-village-with-a-modern-community https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g315994-d3521905-r206848651-Lacock_Abbey-Lacock_Wiltshire_England.html
