The Black Hill known locally as the Cats Back. A local favourite walk. You will see where Longtown gets its name from as you look back down the valley. Look out for the wild horses on your walk. You may be lucky enough to get up close. This is one of the most spectacular Black Mountains walks in South Wales. You can go to the summit of the Black Hill (point E) and return back down again (2.8 miles), or you can do the entire circuit (just under 5 miles). This is one of the most glorious strolls in the region, whether or not you’re a veteran walker, especially when the skies are blue and the clouds are high. https://theoutdoorguide.co.uk/walks/tog-walks/black-mountains-walks-the-black-hill-and-cats-back-walk/ 5 miles circular tour.

Llanthony Priory is a partly ruined former Augustinian priory in the secluded Vale of Ewyas, a steep-sided once-glaciated valley within the Black Mountains area of the Brecon Beacons National Park in Monmouthshire, south east Wales. It lies seven miles north of Abergavenny on an old road to Hay-on-Wye at Llanthony. The priory ruins lie to the west of the prominent Hatterrall Ridge, a limb of the Black mountains. The main ruins are under the care of Cadw and entrance is free.

On of my favourites especially if the weather is not great. Sheltered from the worst of the wind for some of the way you get to walk alongside small cascading water stream. Drovers Way, Olchon Valley. https://www.uksouthwest.net/herefordshire/black-hill-and-olchon-valley/ Olchon Valley The path to Olchon Valley descends gently over the heather to the head of the ravine then drops down quite steeply, staying just to the east of a small stream, and meeting a road after 1.2 miles from the junction. The waterfalls and pools along the drainage can be seen by walking off trail a way then directly down the streambed; there are no significant obstacles, though also no especially big falls. One tributary joins from the west, then the gradient lessens and the creek flows towards a sparsely wooded area further down the valley. From the end of the path it is 1.4 miles back along roads to the start point, but perhaps a better alternative is to walk cross-country or along sheep trails over the hillside to the east, across a number of tiny drainages before rising slightly to pass along the upper edge of a patch of woods, over more rough grassland and finally round below the lower end of the ridge, meeting the initial path just below the southernmost rocky exposures.

**THE JEWEL OF THE GOLDEN VALLEY** We love it when we're out walking and stumble across a real gem. An old church, an historic abbey, a fantastic viewpoint or a quaint village. If you're out exploring the gorgeous golden valley this year look out for Dore Abbey nestled deep in the Herefordshire countryside. Just waiting to be discovered. This former Cistercian abbey was founded in 1147 by Robert FitzHarold of Ewyas, the Lord of Ewyas Harold. A large part of the original medieval building has been used since the 16th century as the parish church, with remaining parts either now ruined or no longer extant. It was formed as a daughter house of the Cistercian abbey at Morimond in France and modelled on the same having a presbytery, two chapels, two transepts, a crossing and a nave. If you love history then this find will fuel your passion even more. www.eatsleepliveherefordshire.co.uk #eatsleepliveherefordshire
