The ferry to the city is very close, fun, and affordable.
If San Francisco is what you are after & why not the ferry or the bus or driving is all close & easy. The Presidio is only 12 minutes drive without traffic. You can walk to the ferry if you can handle the hill down, advise uber back up though.
The hill "La Cuesta" is great cardio if you are an exerciser.

Muir Woods requires reservations & is totally worth it
It's not far, yet the roads are winding up the mountain & there are vista's down to the ocean. It is a spectacular view of 2400 year old Redwood trees. Muir Woods was visited by dignitaries prior to initiating the United Nations. There are hikes & food but bring a jacket.

Terrapin; Owned & operated by Phil Lesh of The Grateful Dead
The Grate room requires tickets but there is always music in the bar & at times outside in the park on the adjacent creek. People come from all over Calfornia to attend fantastic sounds of The Grateful Dead legends at Terrapin. Look online for information.

Must do the Barbary Coast Trail in San Francisco
If you are taking the ferry to SF it is fairly easy to pick up a map or follow the emblems online for an in depth experience of old San Francisco. It starts in the Marina area and ends at the Mint building. The architecture is well worth it but it is about 8 miles of walking if you do the whole trail.
