At the southern tip of South Padre Island is the Birding & Nature Center, with morning bird walks and interpretive guides of the center and the boardwalks. The island and adjacent Laguna Madre are a stop-over for seasonally migrating birds, warblers, tanagers, orioles and thrushes. Wetlands harbor a range of shorebirds and waterfowl, while endangered species such as the Brown Pelican, Piping Plover and Peregrine Falcon may be found here as well.

If you want to grill some meat on the backyard grill, this is by far the best source of high-quality prime and choice cuts. Of course, this is Texas, so you probably can’t go wrong even at the local supermarkets. Still, if you want something special, this is the place.

A sea turtle rescue group helps these guys recuperate from injuries, provides tours of the tanks, and sometimes lets you feed them. Its awesome. It can get very busy, so earlier in the day is probably better.
