Food scene

The owners of Paxton’s Grill opened their family-friendly restaurant in early 2000 with a nod to the first settler in the area, Colonel Thomas Paxton. The owners were offered the opportunity to acquire the building you are in, where they envisioned a second establishment offering quality food and service in a friendly atmosphere in Historic Loveland. This historic building, which dates back to the mid-1800s, was originally named the Ramsey Building. The Ramsey families, along with the Paxtons, were the first families of the area. Colonel Paxton and his sons-in-law came to claim a 1,000-acre grant that he received for his services in the Revolutionary War, an area that included what is now Loveland. One son-in-law, Colonel William Ramsey, laid out the adjoining towns of Paxton and Loveland. Another son-in-law, John Ramsey, and his wife Katherine McKinney Ramsey had a daughter named Isabella, who married James Loveland in 1841. James Loveland was Justice of the Peace, General Store owner and Postmaster for both the town of Loveland and Paxton, which, in 1863, was consolidated into one town, Loveland. The fire that destroyed an entire block in Historic Loveland in the Summer of 2017 dealt a blow to our plans, but with the help of so many, we have been able to realize our vision of taking this historic building, adding to its character, and creating an atmosphere that we hope will be enjoyable for all. As we rebuilt from the fire, we kept much of the historic character of the main two-story brick building intact. The addition of a new enclosed patio and rooftop deck, offers a wonderful place to enjoy family, friends, quality food and a relaxing environment for all. Thank you for joining us and welcome to Ramsey’s Trailside. John, Ralph, Jeff, JT, JR, Kevin, Tim & Tom

ocated in the heart of the Historic Loveland District just outside Cincinnati, Paxton’s Grill is housed in one of the town’s oldest buildings and is adjacent to the Little Miami Scenic Bike Trail. Our relaxed atmosphere and friendly service welcomes you back time and time again! Although Loveland, Ohio was named after the city’s first postmaster and early shopkeeper James Loveland, the area’s first settler was Col. Thomas Paxton. Born in Pennsylvania in 1739, Paxton moved to Kentucky in 1790. After having the opportunity to observe the beauty of the Little Miami River landscape, Paxton traveled north and in 1795 settled in the area now known as Loveland. During the Revolutionary War, Paxton served as Lt. Colonel of the Second Battalion of the Bedford County Militia. In 1777, he ate Christmas dinner at Valley Forge with Gen. George Washington and other illustrious military personnel such as the Marquis de Lafayette and Alexander Hamilton. Paxton is acknowledged for being the first to build a log cabin in the area. He died in 1813 and was buried in the family graveyard on the farm where he built his first cabin. Thirty-five years later, Col. William Ramsey, a land speculator, laid out the town of Paxton which was partially bordered by the Little Miami Railroad. A few years later, Ramsey laid out the town of Loveland, which adjoined the town of Paxton. Due to residents’ frequent stops at James Loveland’s general store, the name caught on and in 1863, Paxton officially became Loveland and new boundaries were established. Paxton’s Grill is housed in one of Loveland’s oldest buildings built about the same time that the town of Paxton became Loveland. In January 2000, a few locals saw the need for a family-friendly establishment and purchased this historic building with the goal of providing good food at reasonable prices in a comfortable setting. We welcome you to Paxton’s Grill and are proud to pay homage to Thomas Paxton and his early contributions to what is now called the Historic Loveland District. Thank you for joining us and welcome to Paxton's Grill!

Bishop’s Quarter is a beautiful 3 level bar located just off the bike trail directly in the heart of historic Loveland. Focusing on fine wine, bourbon, and craft beer, Bishop’s Quarter is the end result stemming from the tragic fire that devastated downtown Loveland in 2017. The first floor has a classic cocktail bar feel that gives off the vibe of the French Quarter combined with an outdoor back patio perfect for a relaxing evening of cocktails and live music. Bourbon will be a focus of this floor, with over 40 bourbons available for the guest to enjoy. “The View”, our second level, is a beautifully designed area focused on comfort, warmth, and wine. From the fireplace to the couches and love seats to the side patio overlooking the sunset, The View will be the spot to dive into our extensive wine list that keeps a balance of new world and old world options. Walk up our final staircase and “The Landing” will be your destination. This is our rooftop bar. Industrial design, craft beer, televisions, and a huge outdoor area will make this Loveland’s most desirable spot for most of the year. Retractable garage doors will create an open air setting that is so popular today and will be the spot to watch a game or grab a beer and some food after a day of enjoying all the outdoor activities Loveland offers! We have created an incredible menu for the guests to enjoy. Small bites, shareables, and Southern comfort food! We offer a twist on classic New Orleans cuisine and dishes from the South. The menu is written for the guest to be able to control how much food is coming their way, allowing them to try 2 or 3 items without feeling overwhelmed. Smoked chicken wings, hand cut frites, shrimp and grits, steak, tacos, flatbreads, and multiple oyster options highlight Bishop’s Quarter’s menu. Welcome to Bishop’s Quarter! We are so excited to see you and show you everything Bishop’s Quarter has to offer. Let the Good Times Roll!
