Supermarket

Best supermarket ever. A mochi ice-cream parlour, a pick-and-mix bar for dog treats and a DIY orange-juice station are just some of the features at New South Wales’s first Coles Local, in Rose Bay. The Rose Bay store has a self-serve coffee station and more than 350 ready-to-eat meals that can be prepared in less than 30 minutes. Vegetarians and vegans are well catered for, with the largest range of plant-based groceries of any Coles in the state. The store also stocks more than 400 kosher products to cater to the local Jewish community. Coles has enlisted a number of local businesses, including butcher Field to Fork and Sonoma bakery, to supply products for the new store. In a nod to sustainability, staff uniforms are made from 65 per cent recycled bottles, trolleys are partly made with recycled plastic, and boxes will be offered to customers in lieu of plastic bags. Plus, any unsold food that isn’t fit is to be donated to food-rescue organisation Secondbite (it takes surplus unsold edible food and redistribute it to local charities).

Once a fishing village, Watsons Bay is now one of the must-see places for visitors to Sydney . Situated on a peninsula at the the southern entrance to Sydney Harbour, Watsons Bay offers panoramic views up the harbour as well as coastal vistas on the ocean side. There are enough things to see and do here and in the vicinity to fill a few hours or a few days. It’s only 11km north east of the CBD but Watsons Bay feels like a different world. Sitting at the end of the South Head peninsular it encapsulates some of Sydney’s most amazing views. Tiny weather board cottages intermingled with Victorian Terraces and waterfront estates. Here is where Sydneysiders come to play, relax and take in the surroundings. It is considered to be the Palm Beach or Hamptons of the East. Watsons Bay Park is a great place to relax and enjoy fish & chips from Doyle’s whilst the children play on the swings and slides. The view from Watsons Bay is nothing short of spectacular – the tranquil waters of Sydney Harbour, the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Enjoy morning tea at the Teagardens Cafe, and spend some quality time with the kids at the mini Woollahra library which is adjoining the café. Walk the promenade, swim in the recently updated Baths or stop in at Watsons Bay Hotel for a quick bite and cocktail. https://www.sydney.com/destinations/sydney/sydney-east/watsons-bay
