Cullen's main claim to fame is the smoked fish soup, Cullen Skink, but this gorgeous village, established in 1189, has some fantastic eating places, interesting shops, amazing views and a beautiful beach. The herring industry in the 1800s followed on from the wealth made by textiles and thread making and not forgetting the pier built by Thomas Telford in 1819. We love Rockpool for breakfast or lunch followed by a yummy ice-cream at The Ice Cream Shop (regarded by many as Scotland's best ice cream shop) a couple of doors along. The newly refurbished Seafield Arms is another favourite and the newly opened Seafield Seafood Deli is being raved about.

This little gem has been here since the 13th century. Lovely cottages and gardens which the owners take pride in. There's a lovely restaurant in the converted church at the end of the village. Well worth a visit as it serves local produce fresh off the boats.
