THERMAL BATHS

The largest thermal bath is Leukerbad. Definitely the cheapest and the best for families because of its facilities for kids. I definitely suggest the to buy the pass to have access to the saunas (10 CHF). Definitely worth it. I also suggest the daily card and not the 3 hours one. Time flies there. The view is amazing and during the winter it's a true cathartic experience.

HIKING

Gemmi Pass is definitely a place where to go hiking if you are staying in Leukerbad during the summer. If you like long hikes you could reach it without using the cable car (almost 2 hours of walking). Many other hikes start from Gemmi to reach other marvelous points such as Lammerhutte. During the winter you don't want to miss out the amazing cross-country skiing track that Gemmi Pass offers.

The perfect flat hiking track in the summer, for who doesn't like elevation gains, and the perfect cross country skii track in the winter. The sceneries are astonishing! P.S.: for the most courageous people I suggest to bring a swimming suit if the weather is nice. There are some nice tiny beaches where you can swim (not too much time) and sunbathe.

Probably the shortest hike I would recommend. Extremely easy, but with a great view on the mountains. On the path to this small lake there are great canyons (along the Dala river, with some epic views. P.S.: if you like BBQs there are the facilities, around the lake, to make yourself a good one.

Situated above the Gemmi Pass, the Lämmerenhütte (2507 meters), an amazing and authentic refuge with 96 beds, has a splendid view of the surrounding peaks, including the Balmhorn, Daubenhorn and Bietschhorn. Numerous ibex and marmots live near the hut or the access road. Great place where to sleep and grab a hot cup of tea! 1,5 hours from Gemmi Pass (that you can reach with a cable car) by walk and 2,5-4 hours by Leukerbad by walk

The Dala river's canyons are definitely an attraction you can't miss, because of their beauty and because of their importance. A very adventurous path (with Tibetan bridges and walkways) guides you along the Dala river, where you can enjoy an incredible view and where you can see thermal water springs (and actually feel the temperature of the water, over 50° Celsius!). Very short track that anyone can do. Part of the path is the same to reach the small lake Majingsee. Not recommended to anyone who is afraid of heights.

FOOD SCENE

If you have to go out for dinner I really suggest the place. Definitely not cheap (40-70 CHF per person) but the view on the mountains through the glass-made walls and coziness of the place make it worth it! I suggest their steaks and their great red wine! Perfect for couples who want to have a romantic dinner together. I definitely advise to book in order to get the table with the best view.

if you want to have a pizza, Pizzeria Giardino is the right place to be. I am italian and I have to say it's the best of Leukerbad. It's probably the cheapest option as you can order a Margherita with 17.5 CHF.

It is open only at lunch but it is definitely worth a visit both in the summer and in the winter. They have an amazing terrace and a super cozy interior as well. You need to do a walk of 20-30 minutes in the nature to reach it. It is in a tiny charmful village close to Leukerbad. It is the best in my humble opinion, but I would go there only I wanted to do a walk.

SIGHTSEEING

If you are interested in art and exhibitions this is your place! the Fondation Pierre Gianadda ia located in Martigny, 70 kilometers (1 hour by car) from Leukerbad, and hosts worldwide famous exhibitions of the most famous artists and collections in the world. I suggest to check in advance which exhibition they are currently hosting. I personally visited one on Chagall and another one on the French Impressionism. My other suggestion is to keep it for a rainy day. P.S.: pretty close to this Museum there are some Roman ruins (expecially the amphitheatre) that are definitely worth a visit!

Sion, located 39 km (43 minutes by car) from Leukerbad, is the capital of the Canton of Valais and it is known as the most sun-blessed town of Switzerland. Thanks to its central location, the small town is abounding with culture. Sion is recognizable from afar thanks to the high towers of Castle Tourbillon and the Castle of Valeria. These landmarks guard the capital of Valais and its 30,000 inhabitants. Past and future blend in one of Switzerland’s oldest cities. Sion, which boasts a 7,000-year history, is today the economic center of Valais and an important traffic junction with its own international airport. The Castle Church of Valeria has one of the world’s oldest playable organs from the late beginning of the 15th Century. Particularly charming are the many historical monuments in the Old Town, the shopping area, and the new modern and convenient municipal facilities. Here one feels a little closer to the south. A visit to one of the numerous museums lets you discover the varied history of the city.

MOUNTAIN CLIMBING

Leukerbad has the longest via ferrata in Switzerland (also one of the longest in the world). In the steep rock face of the Daubenhorn (2941 meters), rising above Leukerbad, 216 meters of ladders and more than 2000 meters of steel cables were installed. It is a demanding mountain adventure that requires more than 5-6 hours of intense effort, for a total of 1100 meters of elevation gain.
