Food scene
My choice of restaurant to go with my friends or family. It has the warm hospitality and amazingly great traditional cuisine.
This restaurant in located in the area with a lot of upscale and local kafanas in Debar Maalo.
It’s on a side-street behind Skopski Merak. It’s entrance leads down to the restaurant, but they have the lovely garden which is lovely to dine at on a sunny day.
The service is always great - treating guest as friend or family.
My favorite menu: salad, ajvar, crunchy cheese, fried courgettes, and the really delicious baked beef ribs with a glass of red wine.

For most of its existence, Skopje has been a modest Balkan city known for its rich local life.
Sublime Ohrid is North Macedonia's most seductive destination. It sits on the edge of serene Lake Ohrid, with an atmospheric old quarter that cascades down steep streets, dotted with beautiful churches and topped by the bones of a medieval castle.
Traditional restaurants and lakeside cafes liven up the cobblestone streets, which in high summer can be very lively indeed.
Outside of July and August, the tourist circus subsides and the town becomes more lived in.

Ohrid
Sublime Ohrid is North Macedonia's most seductive destination. It sits on the edge of serene Lake Ohrid, with an atmospheric old quarter that cascades down steep streets, dotted with beautiful churches and topped by the bones of a medieval castle.
Traditional restaurants and lakeside cafes liven up the cobblestone streets, which in high summer can be very lively indeed.
Outside of July and August, the tourist circus subsides and the town becomes more lived in.
The gorges, pine forests, karst fields and waterfalls of Mavrovo National Park offer a breath of fresh, rarefied air for visitors travelling between Skopje and Ohrid.
Beautiful vistas abound, and the park is home to North Macedonia's highest peak, Mt Korab (2764m).
Locally the park is best known for its ski resort (the country’s biggest) near Mavrovo town, but by international standards the skiing is fairly average. In summertime, the park is glorious.
One of North Macedonia's most important – and accessible – monasteries, Sveti Jovan Bigorski, is here, as are the atmospheric villages of Galičnik and Janče, separated by a mountain ridge. The Galičnik traditional village wedding is one of the country's most popular and quirky summer festivals. Mavrovo is also home to some of North Macedonia’s most revered cheesemakers.
Driving in Mavrovo is extremely scenic.
