Fine Dining
Some of Boise’s high end eateries that generally require a reservation.
When I am in the mood for a really good cocktail, Bardenay always pops to mind. The fact that they have awesome food and a super cool venue (vintage pics and an on-site distillery that you can see) is just icing on the cake.
My all time favorite drink, pictured, is The Basil Instinct and my favorite thing to eat is the Charbroiled Trout Fillet followed very, VERY closely by the Sea Bass Gnocchi.

Located in neighboring city of Nampa. This is my favorite restaurant in Idaho without a doubt. Everything on the menu is incredible. Steak, seafood, burgers and so much more. Sightseeing
A bit of a drive for an epic view of the snake river canyon, information on the historic dam, and a great place to catch a sunset! There is also some great bird watching here. The raptors love to soar along the canyon rim. This spot is just past Initial Point (see hiking), so they are great to do together.

This is a bit of a drive to a cool piece of Idaho history. After a short hike to the top of a volcanic butte you will find the original pin from which the entire state of Idaho was surveyed from in 1867. The dirt road to the base of the butte from the main road is rough and rutted. It’s passable in most cars (an SUV or pickup is ideal) if it is dry or snow covered but is a bad idea to try it if it’s muddy. Is about a mile to walk from the main road to the butte.

This is a bit of a drive to a cool piece of Idaho history. Some of the most beautiful scenery around. Rock formations and pocket canyons. Great hiking and fishing.
This destination is gorgeous BUT it’s about 2.5 hours away (including about 45 miles of washboard dirt roads) so head out early, pack a lunch and snacks and a map.

Walkable

Some of my favorite things to do here:
-Pack a picnic lunch, spread out a blanket and people watch
- Paddleboard in Quinn’s Pond (or the river, or Boise Cascade Lake or Esther Simplot Pond 1 or 2!)
-Watch a peregrine falcon diving for fish in any of the aforementioned bodies of water (although I find them most often in Esther Simplot Pond 1)
-Wander along the boardwalk through the marsh and see/hear dozens of types of birds
- Fish (if the falcons don’t beat you to it)
- Experience or admire the rapids in the Whitewater park.
- Hop on a bike and explore the city via the Greenbelt
-Watch one of the most incredible sunsets you might ever see. My favorite spot is on the hill in the middle of Esther Simplot Pond 1.
- Walk across the bridge and grab a quick bite to eat or a drink at Luciano’s cafe
