City/town information

Truro City with our beautiful Cathedral, is a 20-30 minute drive form the Aivarie on a main road. A great place to visit for shopping, restaurants, cafes, The Hall for Cornwall Theatre, Cinema, Bowling and Drinks. Taxis do run form The Aviarie to Truro although we are in Rural Cornwall so I would advise pre-booking well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Beaches

A childhood favourite for us, on our doorstep 5-10 minute drive. A long sandy stretch of beach that at mid and low tide links up to Pendower to give you a long beach to walk along. When conditions allow this is our local beach to catch a wave or two, so if you like a surf its worth bringing your boards just in case. Not only is this a beautiful location it is also perfectly equipped with refreshments to ensure you are hydrated and fed. Carne beach car park has the wonderful Thirstea horse box - www.thirsteacompany.co.uk and at the Pendower end you will find a café up form the slips. Both take away with cakes, light lunches and refreshments.

A lovely walk from Carne/Pendower Beach along the coast path, takes you across my favourite beach I call it 'White Sands' and then around the coastguard hut point and onto Porthcurnick. Or if you would rather hop in your car for a 10 min drive to the beach. A beautiful spot with glimpses of Portscatho in the distance - 15 minutes along the coast path and you will arrive in the village or 5 mins by car. Porthcurnick is also home to the Hidden Hut - www.hiddenhut.co.uk serving beautiful lunches, cakes and refreshments (Hidden Hut has a media profile, definitely worth a visit but there can be ques, so we don't suggest turning up starving!)

My favourite way to arrive at the beach is to; at the top of the hill before you drop down into Caerhays, there is a layby, you can park here, pop through the gate and follow the footpath to the left across the fields taking in the beautiful views arriving on the road just up form the beach. Although there is a generous carpark that does have a fee at the beach so no parking worries. Caerhays has a café on the beach and its worth looking them up on social media if you like local live music as the have ad hoc evening events which are lovely to chill out and relax while you watch the sun go down. Across the road from the beach is the Castle - a truly beautiful spot with stunning gardens.

Heading towards St Anthony's head you will come across Towan Beach. One of my favourite Doggie walks is from Portscatho along the coast path to Towan and then cut back up through the Rosteague estate, back up the hill to Gerrans. The main Thirstea cafe is found in the court yard up form the beach - they make delicious toasties, soup, light lunches and cake!!!!! Across the road you can also access parking and a short circular walk. through the woodlands, a nice little extra, it is also along a hard path so no Mud, should you be visiting in the wetter months.

A place of Christian presence, prayer, and worship since the sixth century. Hallowed by such a long history of prayer and settled by the creek in glorious grounds, you will never forget you have visited St Just in Roseland Church. Thirty years ago, Heligan’s historic gardens were unknown and unseen; lost to the brambles of time since the outbreak of WW1. It was only the chance discovery of a door in the ruins that led to the restoration of this once great estate. Today, The Lost Gardens have been put back where they belong: in pride of place among the finest gardens in England. A beautiful day out, to wonder around the beautiful grounds and have a yummy lunch!

http://www.melinseymill.co.uk/ Tucked away in one of Cornwalls hidden valleys, you will discover Melinsey Mill. This local family business is run from a restored 16th century water mill. Melinsey is a one off, a wonderful cornish mixture of eccentricity and charm. When you walk around the pond you pass a mermaid ,walk under a lampshade tree and travel through a teapot arch. After your journey you might be ready for a homemade lunch, cake or cream tea. Tables and chairs are situated around the pond for outside eating. If the weather should be unkind seek refuge in the rustic shelters and large fire house. Well behaved dogs on leads are always welcome.
