Ka'anapali beach isn't just one of the best West Maui beaches, it's one of the best beaches on Maui. It offers miles of soft sands and plenty of places to sit.
There are walking and running trails along the beach that offer a 5 mile meandering path set against a backdrop of turquoise water and majestic sunsets.
Black Rock is at the north end of Ka’anapali Beach, and is a great place to cliff-jump into the ocean, and snorkel. As the sun begins to set each evening over West Maui, a tradition begun in 1963 — the ceremonial dive off Black Rock — continues at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa.
Late each afternoon (the sunset time doesn’t vary much throughout the year in Hawaii), people gather along the beach and at the hotel’s Cliff Dive Grill to watch a young man dash across the black lava, torch in hand, before tossing his flowing lei into the ocean and making the 30-foot dive.

The course was opened in 1962 and is one of only two Robert Trent Jones Sr designed courses in all of Hawaii. The signature hole is the beautiful 5th that takes you directly down to Ka'anapali and Black Rock Beach. (You will be so close to the ocean you can go swimming!)

And if you shop long enough, you're bound to get hungry.
Fortunately, they offer several fabulous restaurants to choose from, with killer ocean views and great reviews: The Hula Grill, Leilani's On The Beach, and Cane and Taro. Or, if you want something less expensive for a quick on-the-go meal, there is also a small food court.

Haleakala National Park is home to Maui's highest peak. Rising 10,023 (3,005 m) feet above sea level, Haleakala means "house of the sun" and is where demigod Maui lassoed the sun, slowing its passage so people had more time to dry kapa (cloth) and grow food. The dormant volcano's "crater" is actually a valley carved by erosion. Sunrise at the summit of Haleakala has been a visitor attraction since the late 1800s when Samuel Clemens wrote: "It was the sublimest spectacle I ever witnessed, and I think the memory of it will remain with me always.
Our family loves to do the morning bike ride down the volcano - waking in the middle of the night to be driven to the top of the crater. As you wait in the dark (be sure to bring warm clothes) you begin to see a spark of light which expands to fill the universe with the sun as it rises. Once daylight appears, you ride down the volcano and into the nearby town. It is all downhill so even if you are a little out of shape it is well worth the experience.
