Very good food with fair prices, and a completely new covered, all weather childrens play area which is the absolute best in town with slides, playground, rock climbing wall, video games.... and only 20 pesos for half an hour!

I have eaten here with my family and have organized a graduation with 150 people with the owners, and the food, service and environment have excelled for both. Excellent local food with a large, family safe patio for the kids to run around. Located 1.5 blocks from Santo Domingo and the Cathedral ( and around the block from the Chocolate Mueseum for the best ice cream!), Casa Santa is where I go for good, inexpensive local food.

Best Pizza in San Cris. Try and get a table upstairs on the balcony with views east and west of Real de Guadalupe.

Bakery, resturant.....low key hang out spot in San Cristobal since 1988. Eduardo, the original owner, is always a pleasure to strike up a conversation in English or Spanish. Excellent loaves of bread, pastries, brownies....plus low cost, high quality food in one of the oldest buildings in San Cris, right across from San Francisco church and down the street from El Carmen church. Ask for an order of rosemary fries, and I guarentee you will ask for another.

It seems that during each of the resturants transformations- La Galeria, La Paloma, and most recently Santo Nahual- the food and atmosphere just keeps getting better. You can also sign up for sessions with Kiki about philosphy, grief therapy, a book club, art exhibitions.....a truly unique space in the heart of San Cris.

Best nature reseve in San Cristobal, with a clear, clean river, hiking trails, picnic areas, zip line- surrounded by 500 hectares of forest. Highly recommended, and only 15 minutes from the center of town.

A gem hidden 15 minutes from San Cris on the old road to Tuxtla, you will find a small but well done zoo with local wildlife, a public library, picnic areas and hiking trails. It is also a birding hotspot.

The cities sport center, SEDEM is the best place to play basketball on full and childrens courts, jog on the cushioned track or the gravel loop, play handball, rollerhockey, swim, go kayaking on the small ponds, play soccer, baseball, excersise- this recently renovated public space is open from dawn to dusk.

In the "conversation" friendly section of San Cris nightlife, far from blaring techno music and slurring drunks, you can enjoy a glass of wine or beer on tap at El Cau while sitting outside and listening to the soft guitar or soloist singing inside. Tapas are simple and tasty. Also great view of Guadalupe, and a place to wave to passing friends or invite them for a glass.

Walk down the main aisle until you cross over Prolongacion Insurgentes to MERPOSUR for flowers, fruit, veggies, meat, chicken......absolutely everything. Go to the back patio of MERPOSUR for the individual sellers and seasonal produce and herbs.

The Humedales Park is a great place to walk on the boardwalk and enjoy the willows, poplars, and cypress trees as well as to go birding early in the morning or in the evening. Entry is 5 only pesos. it is also the location for the Office of Civil Protection.
Across the street from the park you will find: The Caballo Negro liquor and grocery, Los Humedales Laundramat ( with pick up and delivery service to the cottage) and two economic resturants. You can then go another 200 m to the OXXO if there is anything that the Caballo Negro doesn't have.
