Offerta gastronomica

The Osteria di Rubbiara has been handed down from generation to generation. Founded as a "tavern with the right to food and stabling" in the nineteenth century, it has evolved over the years without losing its Modenese identity. Today, it offers the dishes of the past such as tortellini strictly in broth, maccheroni al pettine and strichetti with meat sauce, roasts with baked potatoes, Lambrusco Chicken (whose recipe is jealously guarded by the family), omelette with balsamic vinegar, simple and tasty, traditional cakes such as "tagliatelle" or ice cream with balsamic vinegar. It is possible to spend an interesting Sunday in Nonantola, visiting the historical center, the famous Abbey with its museum, and then stop for lunch at the Osteria di Rubbiara and visit the balsamic vinegar factory.

The Abbey was founded in 742 by Abbot Anselm, brother-in-law of Astolfo, King of the Longobards, who moved here with his monks and founded a monastery. The building was dedicated in 756 to San Silvestro I pope. Important religious and cultural center of medieval Europe and jewel of Romanesque architecture in Emilia, the Abbey is an extraordinary testimony of 1300 years of faith, history and art. Formerly a Benedictine monastery and then a Cistercian monastery, founded in 752 by Saint Anselm, brother-in-law of the Longobard king Astolfo, it is dedicated to Pope Saint Sylvester I and preserves his relics. The splendid basilica, with its magnificent portal sculpted by Wiligelmo and his school, and the forest of columns supporting the crypt, is today the co-cathedral church of the Archdiocese of Modena-Nonantola. The tour ends with a visit to the Benedictine and Diocesan Museum where the Sacred Treasure of the Abbey is on display, with precious objects and reliquaries, rare fabrics, parchments and illuminated codes from the ancient monastic scriptorium, including the Evangelistario by Matilde di Canossa, and imperial documents including those bearing the monogram of Charlemagne and other medieval sovereigns.

The Panzano Castle and the Righini Collection of Vintage Automobiles Near Castelfranco Emilia in “Motor Valley” stands Panzano Castle and its comprehensive privately owned museum of vintage automobiles, the Righini Collection. Beginning in his youth, when he witnessed the demolition of government-requisitioned vehicles, Mario Righini began to develop a grand passion for saving and restoring vintage cars. The demonstration of his dedication now lies within the castle’s ancient walls. The collection contains about 350 models, including the Auto Avio Costruzioni 815 from 1940, the first automobile designed by Enzo Ferrari, even before his own factory existed; and an Alfa Romeo 2300 8C that once belonged to legendary Italian racing driver, Tazio Nuvolari. The museum’s other treasures represent the very best in motor vehicle manufacturing from such firms as Ferrari, Mercedes Benz, Isotta Fraschini, and Rolls Royce.
