Auroville and it's affiliated properties are spread around the neighborhood.
It's an international township that has a unique environment and structure. It promotes learning and research through its multiple and diverse organizations, most of which are inclined towards sustainability, architecture, waste management, agriculture, spirituality etc.
A hotspot for backpackers, volunteers & international + local tourists alike.
There are quite a few cafés, bakeries, eateries, gelato shops and dedicated coffee roasters around its periphery as well.

Pondicherry (or as we locals like to call it: 'Pondi'), the ex French colonial city (now a union territory) is located 4kms -10mins away by a motor vehicle, 15 by cycle.
Its French & Tamil legacy is preserved in it's French / Tamil Quarters, with tree-lined streets, pastel-colored colonial + Tamil villas and chic cafés, boutique hotels and pretty nooks and corners along with the famous sea-facing promenade and lighthouses.
