Food scene

Packwood Brewing has great beer & food, indoor and outdoor seating, and they are open to all--kids, parents, and pets (outside seating). They also often host live music. The brewery is built inside a restored original Packwood building. The brewery might be busy on weekends in the summer, but it's not typically a long wait for a spot. They also allow you to bring food in.

The Mountain Goat is our go-to breakfast place. They serve coffee, tea, pastries, savory breakfast scones, and hearty oat bars. They also have some cute souvenirs and merchandise for purchase. They are great for takeout, but they also offer ample indoor seating.

Hiking

Juniper Peak Summit trail is 5.6 miles and 1,814ft elevation. It's a great 3.5 hour moderate day hike that starts outside of Randle, WA. On a clear day at the top you'll see views of Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens, and Mt. Rainier. You can find out more info on AllTrails or WTA. Note: The trail is shared use with dirtbikes, so it can be a bit rutted. However, the view at the top is 100% worth the trip.

This is a longer day hike but it's close to town (16mins) and the trip out is worth it. It's about a 10mile moderate hike, and gradual with 1,843ft elevation gain. Easy incline. You'll need a Northwest forest pass to park. More info on WTA or AllTrails

Must-do while you're here! This magical walk in the woods is good for all ages. Scenic 1.5-mi. roundtrip loop through a grove of "patriarchs": ancient (old growth) 3- & 4-story trees. There's also a neat suspension bridge over the Ohanapecosh River.
