One of the five castles in Naples, the Royal Palace is one of the most imposing landmarks of the city: palace, museum, and historical tourist destination, it incorporates in its structure one of the most importand Opera theathers in the world, Teatro San Carlo. I strongly suggest to visit the royal apartments, with the grand staircase at the entrance and their magnificent decorations of military trophies and allegorical bas-reliefs. Beautifully decorated historical rooms overflowing with art works, statues, tapestries and period furniture. You will immediately mesmerized!

Legend has it that the famous Latin poet Virgil hid an enchanted egg inside the castle. The egg would be inside a glass pitcher full of water protected by an iron cage and hung on a heavy oak beam, then placed in a room in the basements of the castle. The legend tells that, if the egg were to be broken, a terrible curse would be bestowed upon the city of Naples. Up to this moment, no eggs are ever been found, but you are welcome to try! Do not crack it, though (please...).

Its scenic location and imposing size made the castle a perfect royal seat for kings of Naples, Aragon and Spain until 1815. The view from the top of the tower is pretty great, but all the rooms and the chapels of the palace make it, in my opinion, one of the best things to see here in Naples.
