Seltjarnarnes offers beautiful trails to walk and experience the Icelandic weather, nature and bird life. Grotta Lighthouse is a lovely place to hike out to and get great pictures for the photo album. Nowhere else do you have such close proximity to nature near downtown Reykjavik.

If the volcano is still erupting, then we recommend checking it out. I'd not recommend taking small children, as they are closer to the ground where the toxic fumes are more prominent and could be dangerous. The hike is moderate, so be well equipped, good shoes and clothing.
