Less than two hours’ drive from Adelaide, Lake Bumbunga’s bubble gum shores draw an eclectic crowd from casual photographers to high-end fashion brands. Located in Lochiel, the lake is known to change colour from pink, to white, to blue, depending on the salinity of the water throughout the year. Hahndorf .Its proud German heritage still visible in its traditional streetscape with smallgoods, bakeries, cuckoo clocks, wooden folk art and German-style pubs. Hahndorf is Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement, built by Prussian settlers in 1839. Learn more at Hahndorf Academy’s migration museum or on a guided walk with Hahndorf Walking Tours. Don’t miss artisan food producers such as Udder Delights cheeses, Buzz Honey, Chocolate @ No. 5 and Harris smoked goods. Visit Hahndorf Academy, a regional arts and heritage hub in the main street, with exhibitions, museum and a shop. Just out of Hahndorf is The Cedars, home and studio of famed landscape artist, Sir Hans Heysen. Kids will be delighted to have a round of min giolf, meet some friendly animals at Hahndorf Farm Barn and pick strawberries at Beerenberg Farm (in season November to April).
