A long-time part of the VB scene inside an old home, Doc's offers traditional home-cooked meals for breakfast and lunch with dinner available in their adjoining restaurant Tautog's. It's popular, so you may have to wait a bit for a table during peak times.

This locally-based restaurant features an "artisan kitchen" with fresh bread-baking on premises. Although they have multiple locations now, one of the originals is just a couple of miles from the beach. Breakfast, lunch or dinner menu very reasonably priced - this is the place we bring out-of-town friends and family. (Contemporary American fare)

For another side of Virginia Beach, take a short drive to Bubba's Seafood, located between the Chesapeake Bay and Lynnhaven River. Great views and local flavor, with lots of marina activity. Just off of Shore Drive, which starts at the north end of Atlantic Avenue around the bend at the mouth of the bay.

There are also some beaches on the bay side and kayak rentals. The 64th Street entrance is just a mile from our house. To get to the main visitors center, you drive to the Shore Drive entrance, or bike through the woods trail off 64th Street.

The theater first opened in the 1930s, but has been operated as an independent cinema by the same owners for the past 41 years. They rotate a lot of films and the snack bar is cheap! Also, when's the last time you saw a movie with actual curtains opening on the screen?

The Chrysler Museum has fifty galleries, a growing collection of more than 30,000 objects, an interactive space for families, and the only glass studio of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic region. Best of all, admission is free.
