Food Scene

Super friendly local cafe specializing in fresh and healthy fare. It's a small space with really good food and the portions are extremely generous. Crowded in am and at lunchtime but tapers off in afternoon. Best place for a sweet, delicious meal.

Historic Inn restaurant with a romantic deserty vibe. Food and drinks are very good, but it's the atmosphere that's the star here. Highly recommend it for a night out with your sweetie.

Bill Keys is an icon of the high desert, referred to locally as Mr. Keys, although he passed away many years ago. He brought his city-bred wife out to the Mojave after he had bought the Desert Queen mine in 1918. They built their homestead ranch, raised and homeschooled 4 children (three had passed) and when he wasn't blowing up boulders to make grazing land for his cattle, or hand-building dams, he created a lasting legend by being so successful and resourceful in such a demanding environment. He did jail time too for the murder of the local sheriff. But was pardoned 5 years later!
